Valentine's Day Favorite

Frango Valentine's Day Heart Milk Mint Box of Chocolates

I always look forward to a box of my favorite Frango Mints for Valentine's Day. This darling heart box contains 50 pieces - more than a pound - 18 ounces of this iconic Chicago favorite.

When I was growing up in the Chicago area, every Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner would end with a box of Frango Mints from Marshall Field's. And there was always a box under the Christmas tree. My Dad would always get boxes for my Mom and I for Valentine's Day as well.

"Frango mints are a brand of chocolate truffles first created for the Frederick & Nelson department stores. Traditionally flavored with mint and widely popularized by the Marshall Field and Company department store, they were later produced and distributed by Macy's department stores.

Historically associated with the Midwestern and Pacific Northwest regions of the United States, the candy is sold in various outlets throughout the country. Frangos were created by Seattle, Washington's Frederick & Nelson department store in 1918; the company and Frango trademarks were both acquired by Chicago's Marshall Field's department store, which introduced its recipe in 1929. Frango mints were produced in large melting pots on the 13th floor of the flagship Marshall Field's store on State Street for 70 years.

In the beginning of 2017, Garrett Popcorn Shops acquired the rights to sell Frango from Macy's."

  1. Frangos are big in my family too. My father would ask my husband and I to pick him up some for gifts as it was easier for us to go to Marshall Field's (now Macy's). We have a few pieces left from a gift at Christmas still hanging around --but not for long :)!

  2. After reading about these candies in one of your earlier posts, I bought a box of the mints for my daughter's Christmas stocking. She immediately loved them. Now I bought two boxes for her upcoming birthday. Thanks for letting us know about these delicious chocolates.
