Signature Scents

Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia

Do you have a signature scent you wear? I really enjoy perfume and wear it every day. There are two scents I have worn for years and I never tire of them. They are both wonderful spring/summer scents. And both feel very tropical, so they are perfect for South Florida. Both make me feel like I am walking in lush gardens in Hawaii or the Caribbean.

The first pictured above is Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. I definitely tend to favor white florals and this combines two magnificent white flowers captured in a luxurious, elegantly simple bouquet - the rich essences of precious Tuberose and exotic Gardenia. Estée Lauder created this for herself in 1973 and it is a wonderfully elegant fragrance.

It can be hard to find and is rarely on sale and I just reordered it on sale here. I think it is the perfect spring fragrance. Update - we sold them out at Nordstrom but Bloomingdale's has $20 off taken in your cart and free shipping and a wonderful free Estée Lauder gift (a $125 value). Click here.

This is the free gift - there are two options - very nice. Click here. I love the blue and white cosmetic bag - sort of chinoiserie!

I have found one last great deal - if you order here and sign up for their loyalty program here - you get 15% off and free shipping and 6 free samples. This is an excellent value too! We seem to be causing a run on this wonderful perfume.

Another one of my signature fragrances is the iconic scent Fracas. Also a white floral, this combines tuberose, gardenia, and jasmine. Many people find it quite similar to Tuberose Gardenia, but it is definitely bolder and a tuberose tour de force. It is powerful, lush, divine, incredibly sexy, and has been been worn by women who are bigger than life - devotees have included Courtney Love, Martha Stewart, Madonna, and Edie Sedgwick — an unconventional, unapologetic crowd. I think it takes self confidence to wear Fracas. It is uber feminine. It is not a timid scent.

“There are perfume legends, there are perfumer legends and then there are perfumes that become obsessions. Fracas is all three.” - Chandler Burr, The New York Times

Fracas is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Please share in a comment if you have a signature perfume, especially for spring and summer. I would love to hear your choices.

Do any of you wear Gucci Bamboo? It would be a very Chinoiserie Chic choice for me with its silver bamboo top.

  1. Hi Beth--I love your choices, especially for life in Florida! I live in Maryland (with a second residence in Naples, FL) and work for Jo Malone London, so my signature fragrance to wear in Florida is either Jo Malone's "Tuberose Angelica" or AERIN's new "Mediterranean Honeysuckle Clementina." And for the home in Florida, always Jo Malone "Orange Blossom" diffusers and candles.
I will try Fracas on your recommendation--thank you!

    1. I layer Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom and Red Roses. That has been my signature scent for years in hot, humid Houston, Texas.

  2. For spring/summer I'm liking the Hermes Rhubarb cologne. It's a light, fresh, citrusy-fruity fragrance and somewhat short lived. It doesn't linger on the skin with heavy finishing notes.

    2. I just updated with another great offer on it.

  4. For years I wore Gio by Armani but when they divorced he had to tweak the formula and it just wasn’t the same on me. So when I retired from the corporate world I switched to In Full Bloom by Kate Spade because it was such a great scent and the name was apropos to my new chapter in life—it’s now discontinued so the search is on for a replacement…

    1. eBay is a good source for discontinued perfumes.

  5. Hello Beth!
I too have worn Estée Lauder Tuberose Gardenia for the past 22 years. Once and awhile I try something else, but after two days, always back to it. It is my signature scent, and I get at least 5 compliments a day on it. I just saw it is sold out at Nordstrom! I usually get it at Saks or Neiman's. I am PRAYING it is not being discontinued. ARGH!

  6. For years I have worn Leila by Geir Ness, a Norwegian fragrance. Now I find it a bit too heavy, especially since it seems so many people are sensitive to fragrance. I am searching for something light and citrusy to wear. So many choices out there!

  7. Thanks so much for posting this Beth. My go-to fragrance is Boucheron. I love it. It's probably a bit heady for the summertime, but you don't have to buy the perfume. They have an au de toilette. For summer and warmer months I like Carolina Herrera's original scent. I am positively in love with the smell of gardenias. For a long time, my favorite fragrance was So Pretty by Cartier, however they discontinued it quite a few years ago. I was so disappointed! I have never heard of Estee Lauder's Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, but it sounds like something I would like. I will try it. Thank you for this fragrant post!

  11. I wore Fracas for years & loved it! Now I turn to Byredo’s Mojave Ghost for warm weather. It’s a floral that you can’t quite identify, so fresh & mysterious. I am an old lady & I always get compliments when I wear it, usually from much younger men! Another mystery! I order it at Violet Grey or pick it up at their store.

  12. Gardenia Passion or Fracas for evening. On Beach vacations I always like Creed Virgin Island Water
