Holiday Accessorizing

Kate Spade

I have always loved dressy gloves and have quite a collection. I was even married in gorgeous long white kidskin gloves from Neiman Marcus. Fancy gloves are a great way to jazz up an outfit for holiday parties and especially New Year's Eve. You can take a simple sheath and have quite an Audrey Hepburn moment with a dramatic pair of gloves.

Feel free to layer bracelets and cocktail rings over the gloves. This was considered déclassé when I was growing up, but is a very modern and elegant look today. Isn't this a stunning picture of a young Kate Spade? I absolutely adored her style.

Here are some wonderful choices starting at $20! And yes, I wear gloves for dressy occasions in Florida, like the ballet, opera, cocktail parties, and such. I just choose lightweight ones like many of these.

  1. For years I’ve been on the hunt for long red patent leather gloves to wear with my leopard coats. Or solid coats too!

    1. Are you familiar with corneliajames.com or dents.com ? They offer lovely, handmade gloves from London and yet, they still affordable.

    2. Red leather gloves of any length seem to be elusive as I've been looking for the right pair too. I love the thought of pairing red gloves with your leopard coat - so Audrey Hepburn!

  2. I, too, have worn the beautiful long white kidskin gloves and there is nothing like that elegant feeling. Growing up in the late 50’s and 60’s, gloves were a standard item in our wardrobe and I collected many beautiful and different styles of them. My favorites were the wrist length kid gloves made so popular by Jacquelyn Kennedy, my style icon.

  3. I had a fabulous collection of gloves, some vintage, along with vintage handbags, boxes full of amazing costume jewelry, and various other beautiful accoutrements that any woman would love. Sadly, when I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Scottsdale, AZ about 20 years ago, the movers stole almost all of it! It still breaks my heart to this day. Apparently the moving company in question made it their business to do this to customers - charge them to move their property, and also rip them off. I'm not sure they are in existence anymore, but I do know that early on the state of Oregon forbid them to do business in their state.

  4. There was a fantastic glove shop on the rue de Rivoli called Denise Franchelle. Sadly, it’s long gone but I have an array of gloves that are irreplaceable. Fine gloves elevate a look!

  5. Daniel Storto lives in a little upstate NY town (Gloversville!) that was near to an Adirondack camp we had for many years. I was fortunate enough to buy a pair of gloves handmade by this famous glovemaking icon, and though they are much too hot to wear in FL, I'll hold on to them while I can!
