We Are Fine

CCC

This is the scene from my front door not even close to the height of the storm from way inside my home. Can you see my street that is a river covering the roadway, verge, sidewalk, and yard? Do you know the expression "If the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise." Well, that is the largest creek that overflowed its banks where I live.

We were in the edge of the left eye wall of the hurricane that was just shy of a Category 5. (That is not good). South of me places like Ft. Meyers, Captiva Island, and such are devastated. My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost lives, homes, and belongings.

We lost internet and reliable phone service late Wednesday and just got it back.

It is not over. I-75 in Sarasota is closed right now in both directions because of flooding. A major river in Sarasota is on the verge of overflowing and people there are to shelter in place. A levy in Sarasota might be failing.

I have spent two days cleaning up my yard. My gardeners are due over any minute to help with the downed live oak in my back yard. Tiles off my roof, but not bad.

Please consider donating to the American Red Cross for those devastated by this historic storm.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

  2. Beth so happy to hear you, the pups and your house are ok. Floridians are strong and will get through this together and rebuild as we have done before. Thankfully we were spared in West Palm Beach. Stay safe ❤️🐶

  9. Glad you are safe. I have family in the Tampa/St. Pete area, and I was very worried for them. They were fortunate to have dodged a bullet when Ian hit further south, but you are right. OMG, those poor people south of you. It appears that no one in FL, except the south east, has been left unscathed, to some extent. The Red Cross is a wonderful organization.

  10. I just re-read your post. (I sometimes read it very quickly and miss some details.) Your street really IS a river! Please watch out for gators and snakes! YIKES!

  13. Echoing everyone's comments. Such a relief to read your post's title this morning in my feed and know that all is well for you.

That river in your street is something. Hoping it has receded by today. It's scary to think of snakes and alligators in the rushing displaced water, but my heart goes out to all those critters too. The storm had to be terrifying for them.

On the national PBS news, the vice mayor of Venice was interviewed; Nick Pachota is his name. I think it was Thursday evening. I thought of you.

  15. I kept checking to see of any word from you. Thank you for this update and so very glad y’all are okay. So relieved!
I am also a big supporter of The Red Cross! Bless all volunteers from all walks of life that are over there now and down the road.
I have dodged these killer hurricanes now for 60 years. I will never take one lightly moving forward.
Our hearts are broken for all those people. Many lives will be forever changed and financially ruined. I can not begin to imagine….

  17. Simply overwhelming. 😭Having wintered with my parents in Ft. Myers Beach (and attending Lee County school), I feel so sentimental about Ft. Myers Beach, Captiva & Sanibel. Later my parents moved full-time to Naples. Agree, everyone who can, should donate to the Red Cross. As others have said, I too kept checking to determine whether you had posted anything. We were so concerned about you, Beth. You were so, so fortunate. We must pray for and give to all those who weren't.

  19. As awful as everything in the world seems lately, I breathed a big sigh of relief when your new post popped up. Stay safe and well. If you can get through the drama of H.Ian, then - heck! - the rest of us can get through anything!
Stay well and safe, Beth, and everyone else!!

  20. I've been thinking about you throughout this ordeal, having gone through Harvey and all the flooding a few years ago, I can somewhat relate. Ian has been much more devastating and I am so glad fared as well as you did! I admire your strength Beth....and your taste! Be well. I'm donating to the Red Cross today!
