Living with Dogs

Alex Papachristidis - Teddy

My dogs Harper and Margot are my babies. If you live with small dogs, one issue, if they are allowed on furniture (which mine are) is how they get on and off high furniture like beds or sofas without hurting themselves.

Alex Papachristidis' tip for living with a pint-size pup? Give him a leg up by placing stylish step stools around the house. “Small antique and vintage chairs next to beds and sofas help to give your pets access to higher ground while also protecting their backs,” writes Alex. “I often buy Teddy’s miniature furniture from antique stores, pier shows, and auction houses.” (via One Kings Lane)

This is a great idea as I have found that finding stylish dog steps or ramps is impossible. Try Googling it - painfully ugly stuff. Annie Selke had one I really liked but discontinued it unfortunately.

So it occurred to me that child's chairs would be perfect - stylish for your home and the pups can use the chair as a dog bed and/or as a step up (and down) to the sofa or bed. Here are some chic choices. I definitely need one for my pagoda bed that is quite high. You can use them for non fur babies if you insist.

    1. I have a rule that I post on what I know, and use and love. I don't have cats unfortunately.

  2. Yes, our pets are our babies. Harper and Margot are adorable. I have two feline fur babies myself, William and Harry, and they occupy a special place in my heart. I would love to have a dog, but tried adopting a kitten, and it was a disaster. Aren't animals wonderful? They ask for so little, but they give so much.

I love the Oliver Kid chair and the two Gray Malin chairs. I happen to love Gray Malin's photography.

Beth, can you tell me what the fabric is on the pillow just behind the last picture of Margot?

  3. Hi Beth, so many cute choices (and cute pics of the babies)!! Do you happen to know where to source the bed coverlet in the first pic?

  4. At last. Wanted to meet Harper and Margot for a long time. My little Havanes rules this house. She can sit, sleep anywhere. I get out of her way.
Alex Papachristides book is always by my bedside. I think he is beyond fabulous. There are several short snips of him on YouTube. Well worth watching . Had the blues for a few days with this rain and such. Now waiting for my flower delivery. 100 orange roses to set the mood for autumn. A woman must always spoil herself first. Swoon each time those boxes come. Enjoy the weekend. K

  6. Love this idea. ❤ Way to provide a practical item for our fur babies and make it beautiful! I bought an adorable child's chair for my cats to sleep on (and they do) and (since I'm petite) I enjoy sitting on it too.
