Sleeping on Silk

Hill House Home

Today I am featuring silk pillowcases. They are without question one of my favorite purchases since moving into my new home. No matter what your age, you should be sleeping on a silk pillowcase. They help prevent wrinkly skin and frizzy hair/bedhead when you awaken. Silk pillowcases keep your skin hydrated and help prevent hair breakage and frizz. They are one of my top beauty tips as well as for making the perfect bed.

From Good Housekeeping that is the authority on all such things -

"No matter what position you sleep in, you spend hours each night with your hair or face pressed up against a pillow. Turns out all that friction can cause creases that turn into wrinkles over time, not to mention bedhead that'll take longer to style in the morning. Thankfully, silk pillowcases exist to give you the beauty sleep of your dreams.

Silk pillowcases create a smooth surface for your hair and skin to glide over – with less friction there will be less creases on your skin and less frizz in your hair. Silk also has inherent cooling capabilities and feels so luxurious to lie on.

Do silk pillowcases really make a difference?

Yes, when it comes to bedhead and wrinkles! Studies show that friction from tossing and turning causes creases in the skin, but dermatologists say that a silky smooth surface can reduce this effect in the long run. Similarly, with less friction on your hair, you're less likely to wake with frizz and tangles. But keep in mind: you should always be wary of unrealistic promises and you can't expect major changes like fewer breakouts, amino acid absorption, or anti-aging benefits."

There are many many brands out there. I personally highly recommend the Hill House Home that I have in the navy blue piped in white and the drop dead gorgeous pastel tie dye. Both are stunning in a chinoiserie bedroom. The bedroom below with the silver chinoiserie wallpaper belongs to the founder of Hill House Home Nell Diamond. They are made in 22mm Mulberry silk which is the highest quality silk - the equivalent of Egyptian cotton in cottons.

If you are curious about laundering, you machine wash on delicate, cold water, low spin, let air dry, low iron if desired.

These are available by the pair or individually in beautiful colors. And use a great pillow - I love my new Casper pillows.

  1. I have slept on silk pillowcases for over 15 years. Wouldn’t sleep on anything else. Even take them with me when I travel!!
