I am totally inspired by this Bunny Williams vignette to get more serious about seashells. I find them so incredibly beautiful. The beaches here in Venice are famous for shark's teeth, but an hour away is Ana Maria Island with some of the best seashell collecting in the world. Especially prized that can be found there is the junonia. My favorite are conch shells that I already collect. I love the colors. I have a collection on my black and gold antique Chinese chest. Any shell collectors?

I have a lot of shells I've collected all over the world and I do not put them away "off-season" They are year round decor for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but I feel free to go a bit more overboard here than I did in NOVA.
DeleteI'm a shell collector / lover. That's why I keep dragging my family across the country to Sanibel Island - haha. We did find some beauties this year just off the beach! And I think shells go perfectly with Chinoiserie!
ReplyDeleteA perfect combination - especially the pale coral pink of conch shells with black and gold chinoiserie.
DeleteI love shells with a variety of decorating styles, just as parts of nature's curiosities!
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteBeth, It's time you take a road trip (not too far) to Sanibel Island. It is truly a shell lovers paradise. They even have their own shell museum.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely on my list.
DeleteI do have a modest collection of sea shells and coral, but we don't get the really beautiful and unusual ones out here in California that you all get on the east coast.
ReplyDeleteSilver Strand and Point Reyes in California are supposed to be wonderful.
DeleteI have family on the gulf coast of Florida, and I've heard Sanibel Island is wonderful. I've yet to see it, but it's definitely on my list.
ReplyDeleteGo! You will love it. It has been deliberately less developed than a lot of Florida. There is a lot of preserved land and no building is taller than 3 stories. It's got a low key vibe, good restaurants, and wonderful, uncrowded beaches. And, no, I don't get paid to promote it!
DeleteI am so lucky to have such wonderful places nearby.
