A Chinoiserie Vignette

Charlotte Moss

Many of us were intrigued yesterday by my photo of the living room with lighting fixtures with perplexing pink cords. A commenter mentioned a similar fixture and cord in a Charlotte Moss room. I thought it would be fun to post the room. Here it is - of course done right as one would expect from Charlotte Moss. Another commenter pointed out that the pulley system was used to clean the glass and replace the candle.

Note too the impeccable use of pattern. Most people would not think to put chinoiserie panels on a wallpapered wall, but here it works beautifully. And no white outlet covers here! LOL. I love the fluted blue and white ginger jar atop the etagere.

That upholstered chaise is wonderful - the perfect spot to read or catch a power nap.

  1. A beautiful room, and though I understand the usefulness of the cord, it bothers me visually, interrupting the space and causing my eyes to focus on it, rather than the rest.

  2. I have a similar glass lighting fixture with a candle. I replaced the candle with a wax battery operated candle with a remote control. So much easier and it is not noticeable.

    1. I use battery candles everywhere in my house. And with timers and remote controls now they are so easy.

  4. Sorry, I'm just not a fan of these candle contraptions. All I can think about is walking into the cord and getting tangled up until everything comes crashing to the floor, including me. Some things were better left behind in previous centuries and I think these things with cords are one of those things.

  6. I've seen this photograph before and I think the mix of the soft blues and pale lavender colors are just stunning together.

  7. I love the decorative hooks for the lamp. I wonder how it's attached to the ceiling, and what the hardware looks like? A lovely, peaceful room.
