The Freedom Statue Atop the Capitol Dome |
I am taking a day or two off after the dark and distressing day we suffered yesterday. I watched in horror as a mob of domestic terrorists defiled and desecrated our Capitol in an attempted coup. May God protect this country the next two weeks from this madman in the White House and from the forces of evil he has unleashed.
A very disturbing day that hopefully will have people wake up to a what a dangerous President can and will do.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your courage in posting this. We cannot stay silent in the face of evil or we are complicit. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteIt was so disturbing. I was in tears all day. Trump has empowered the worst among us. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. I have unfollowed several Instagram accounts due to either lack of horror at what took place or their adoration of Mr. Trump.
ReplyDeleteBeth - I have always admired you, but never as much as today.
ReplyDeleteI second this!!
DeleteThe culmination of four years of destruction of our country...this is what pushing conspiracy theories to mindless people results in. The truth matters - for those who have not spoken the truth about Trump, this disaster belongs to them also.
ReplyDeleteI, as many, was horrified. I never thought I’d see anything like that in my lifetime.
ReplyDeleteThe truth matters, regardless of your political affiliation.
I admire you for this post. It takes courage to speak the truth. It’s easier to spout lies.
Thank-you for having the courage to post this. It shouldn't require courage, but it does. Better days are coming!
ReplyDeleteThank you Beth for speaking up. And thanks to your followers who have commented here. While I love design and fashion, what happened yesterday should have the full attention of every citizen of this country. We cannot let this evil person bring down our democracy.
ReplyDeleteBeth, I commend your comments, and echo those of the commenters above. I have never adored you more!!
ReplyDeleteLincoln spoke about our "better angels". Unfortunately, we, as human beings, have prejudice and hatred of others we perceive as different or not like us; it lurks within us all. Lincoln talked about the better angels we can all listen to which cause us to banish those types of thoughts and appeal to the good that resides within most of us. Trump has spent the last four years encouraging hatred and prejudice and conspiracy theories. He has never appealed to our "better angels". I'm a student of history and what happened yesterday was obscene. George Washington was described as a man who had the gift of silence. Donald Trump is constant sound, all of it bad, misdirected and selfish. Good people have to speak out and condemn his behavior and those of his followers which fall well outside of free speech. Sorry for the preaching; I sometimes yesterday had to turn off the TV because I couldn't believe that was our Capitol.
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you. Decency and integrity and INTELLIGENCE will soon be returned to the White House and the Senate. This national nightmare is almost over.
ReplyDeleteAmen. I have been disgusted for four years, and now disgust turns to horror. I wonder how many of my neighbors will still be flying their damn Trump flags after yesterday's events. The flag of shame.
ReplyDeleteSheer insanity yesterday! Sadly very few of his supporters will change their minds at this point. No one wants to admit they have been taken by a con. They really do exhibit all the signs of a cult.
ReplyDeleteDemocracy dies when good people remain silent. Thank you and amen.
ReplyDeleteBtw, isn't this photo of The Freedom Statue beautiful? Would look great on a wall in my office. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteSo refreshing to hear you speak the truth about the mentally ill person in our White House. Can't wait for the crime family to leave.
ReplyDeleteOMG! AMEN!!!
DeleteI admire your style, your intelligence, and your courage. Thank you for speaking the truth.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened yesterday was horrifying and a wake up call for everyone. I do believe the president was partially responsible for this, but I don't believe he is solely responsible. It is much more complicated than that. Yes, the Freedom Statue is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAMEN!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAgree completely. And thanks for posting. As a couple of Anonymous commentators above said, it shouldn't take courage but it does.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Sister! I hope you don't get a lot of nonsense from the lovers of the looney-bird. I shut my blog down right after I blogged my thoughts about the whole mess when he first took office. Many people who I used to consider blog friends and some real-time friends as well "cut me dead" as the old saying used to go. IG is getting as bad. I deleted the app from my phone because of their new terms of service. So nice honest blogs like this one are getting fewer.
ReplyDeleteThe escalating events of yesterday were outrageous. The pictures of the thugs on the house floor and behind the podium were nothing less than sickening. I heard one pundit refer to this as an "auto coup" and like something one would expect from a banana republic country. Though not a Twitter user myself, I was thrilled to hear Twitter cut off the account of the mad man encouraging and inciting these events. I for one can't wait for a return to civility and grace in the White House!
ReplyDeletebest, teaorwine
Looks like I'm getting in late with a comment, but I prayed the night before this happened and asked God to protect our great nation. And, I like you, cried from the time it started until I fell to sleep after Joe was declared the winner (again). May God continue to watch over us and heal our broken land...
ReplyDeleteSuch a sad day for our country. Thank you for speaking up and may we all survive the next two weeks.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter works in the House of Representatives, and I remember my fear for her and our country on 9-11. She is safe, but now I have to fear the American president and his misguided followers. Praying for all until inauguration.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your heart felt words. I hope we all work hard to bring this great country together, end this pandemic, and restore lives.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, this is the straw that breaks the camel's back when it comes to violence.
ReplyDeleteThank you for speaking out against this act of tyranny and sedition. The well mannered among us have been fairly quiet for the last 5 years and hopefully now we will see government act on our behalf.
ReplyDeleteI echo the sentiments of all above. Thank you for speaking up.
ReplyDeleteGod bless and protect America and its true patriots. It is painful for all citizens, and particularly those, who like you, have respect for the rule of law and love for the institutions of government, to watch the horrifying events of this week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying what so many of us are saying in our own homes. We are horrified. January 20th cannot come soon enough.
ReplyDeleteThe Republican attack on our Capitol should not overshadow the Emancipation of America by Black Voters in Georgia. Stacey Abrams deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it's in the works as we type.
DeleteMy beloved Washington, my home for 51 years before moving to Florida 3 years ago, has been deeply wounded. Voltaire, who witnessed a few mob actions, observed something worth reflecting on: "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities." I grieve with you, Beth.
ReplyDeleteI am very late to the party to comment here, but, like so many others, I must commend you. I have been away from social media for a number of days, just too upset to deal with the nonsense some feel compelled to post and because I am simply grieving over last Wednesday's horror. And now I see we may expect even more in every capital city. I cannot bear it. This man and his cult of followers must go away. Prayers continue. Thank you, Beth!!!
