Updates and Great Finds

Pottery Barn Kids Bailey Crystal Chandelier

For years I wanted a crystal ship chandelier, but never got one. I never really had a ceiling high enough for these massive chandeliers. Here is one at 1st dibs for $35,0000.

1st dibs

Last week I was playing around online and spotted this mini Pottery Barn Kids crystal pirate ship version on sale for $70.00 and free shipping. It arrived last evening. Too cute! It might go in my toilet room in the master bath - LOL - why not? Who doesn't want a crystal pirate ship while using the toilet I ask you?

I ran into my HG yesterday and found a Chinese Chippendale brown rattan bar cart for $79.99 and two gorgeous Ann Gish silk dupione pillow shams for $19.99 each that retail for $340 each. All are slated for the master bedroom.

The painters are getting down to the short strokes on the house and will be done by the end of the week. Tomorrow he starts lacquering the guest bathroom in the tandoori orange.

Yesterday I drove to four Home Depots to score enough of the huge globe lightbulbs for the ceiling fans. 100 miles of running around but they look amazing! I am on a mission.

This morning I am off to Michael's for liquid gold leaf as my painter is matching the frame of that massive mirror in the dining room to the Ralph Lauren gold leaf and crystal pagoda lantern that will hang in there.

And I did find a new handyman through my realtor that she has been using for years. I am on his schedule and he seems very nice.

One week from tonight I will be sleeping in my new home.

New topic for your assistance. BTW, I loved everyone's comments yesterday on the question of a TV in the master bedroom - very interesting. I am leaving the Pit Boss grill I own here with GG. Visually I don't want a huge barbecue grill in my new lanai. I just want something small and easy to use with minimal smoke and cleanup. I had an outdoor standing George Foreman electric grill before that I might replace. Any other thoughts? My lanai is not huge and looks out on those gorgeous preserves, so I don't want anything out there to take away from the view. I guess I could just pass on a grill entirely. And what is the deal with the Big Green Egg grills??? Am I missing something amazing? A Japanese style grill does have a certain CC appeal and they are very attractive.

Here is an electric grill from Target in coral pink for $19.99!

  1. Beth, I wanted a smaller grill for my Door County condo. I was not sure how often we would use it,but wanted one available. I purchased the Colman portable grill. It has great ratings, and my own grill team raves about it. We have grilled hamburgers for the littles, steaks and kabobs. Perfection, and delightfully fun color choices. It uses a propane bottle, and that seems to last forever. I did see it on Amazon too.

  3. Dad had a "green egg" grill before they were "green egg" grills. One of his friends, stationed with the Agency for International Development in Asia, brought back an authentic, turquoise, Asian grill. He gave it to Dad. It was a wonderful grill and looked beautiful on the patio in our home outside of DC. Even as a teen I loved it.
For a very small grill, there's the Weber Smokey Joe that is small, portable, and easy to store on a shelf in the garage when not in use.
Great HG scores yesterday! You must be excited to know you will be sleeping in your new home next week. How wonderful!

  4. We just bought a blackstone flat top grill for our patio. Ours is the 28inch, which is a good size for our tiny patio. And it cooks fast so you aren’t standing out in the heat for a long time.

  5. You seriously can't.be.stopped! What fun. As to grills, the evolution and devolution of grills in our 45 year marriage:you know the line "when someone tells you who they are, believe them." My husband does not like to cook inside. He hates the bugs, heat and humidity of our summers. Why did I ever think he would like to cook outside? We went through a slew of Weber kettles from charcoal to propane. I thought each more expensive one would do the trick. NOOOOO. I bought the medium size Green Egg for me..and the next summer I broke my hand and wrist and couldn't open the damn thing! Then life happened and I just gave up. How to get rid of it? My contractor/carpenter brought his nephews over—college athletes! It took just the former lineman to pick it up like a toddler and put it in the truck. I tried the Phillips smokeless. It is not and for the effort too hard to clean. Now I accept at 70+ we both find BBQ less digestible. So I use my induction+Staub cast iron+very robust outdoor-mounted exhaust fan to sear burgers. We are not dining out or ordering take out, but someday if the air clears, I'll order BBQ when I feel the urge!!It would have been easier and my god less expensive, if I had just heard what my husband was really telling me all these years! Haha!!!

    1. Lots of good points on people as well as grilling. I am on a mission to find something aesthetic as well as functional as the lanai view is the focal point of the house and the grill will be visible.

  7. Just saw this article about "Florida Rooms" from Southern Living. https://www.southernliving.com/home/what-is-a-florida-room
If you scroll down the next article is about vintage furniture sources for Palm Beach.

  8. Ah, yet another wonderful aspect of Florida life: year-round grilling out! I despise turning on the oven in the warm months, seems silly and I try very hard not to do so. Our grill is built-in on the lanai so I would not be able to offer a suggestion on this topic. My SIL has a Green Egg and would not have anything else! I have had some tasty BBQed foods at their house for sure.

So glad you found an acceptable Handyman. This is a necessity for sure.

    1. I got the idea from Juniper Home to remove the dated shades and bulbs and replace them with the oversized white Sylvania globe bulbs and they look great! Saved replacing fans all over the house.
