Towels

Danielle Rollins

I have always had white towels monogrammed with my initials, usually in blue. But after seeing Danielle Rollins' gorgeous coral pink towels, I am rethinking this whole white towel thing.

So, if I ever get five minutes, I am going to find coral pink towels for my new house and have them monogrammed in white. Why do I have a feeling this is going to be hard to find?

For years, I bought the Ralph Lauren towels at Horchow when they had them on sale and with free monogramming. The towels were a great price and excellent quality. But I think the quality has really gone downhill on the RL towels.

BTW, I absolutely loved reading all of your comments yesterday about using your china, silver, and cloth napkins, and especially all your wonderful china patterns.

If anyone has ideas about sourcing these towels, I would be grateful.

Below another beautiful towel example where she has used coral pink on white.

And exciting news for me - my painters surprised me yesterday by completely finishing my closet out of sequence so I can start bring my clothes over today. I can't wait.

  1. I’ve struggled with this! For years I bought the RH towels, but for me they end up very stiff eventually. I just discovered Brooklinen towels. They are beyond amazing. Would you consider buying white and having them custom monogrammed in coral? Lots of shops on Etsy where you could even get pagoda monogram style, bamboo font, etc. it’s a bit more hassle, I know. If you want coral, Company Store has nice towels and they monogram.

  2. Monogrammed towels are always so beautiful. If you can’t find a source for towels that monograms, look for a local person to do it. I have a client that buys towels on sale at TJ Maxx and has me monogram them for her. She gives them as gifts all the time. The second picture is an appliqué, that is trickier to pull off unless you have matching trim fabric. Just an idea!

  4. I love white towels! The coral towels are lovely, however in my experience colored towels fade and look worn before they should.
In the pics above I love the white towels with the coral monogram because I love the way the monogram stands out on the white background.

    1. I will have to do a post on washing colored towels. There are tricks. The coral monogram is lovely, I agree.

  5. The coral pink color for towels is not an easy color to find. I like the Company Store for towels but the closest color they would have is cayenne.

    1. Actually, their Turkish comes in Sorbet which is very close but not available in bath size, unless it's just out of stock. I will check on that. Thanks.

  6. Yet again I agree! I have been buying RL towels for many years at Neiman's or Horchow. Different colors for the monograms over the years, but last 9 years navy blue. The last set I bought has strings falling from them. The quality has definitely changed. For our guest bath I monogram them with XXV our house number.

    1. Yes exactly about the RL towels. Such a shame. I love the XXV monogram. So clever.

  7. These coral towels are pretty (and who can question DR?) but I’ve found that colored towels look tired with use. Plus, white towels can be bleached if necessary. Monogrammed colored towels look nice for show but colored monograms on white towels still get my vote.
    Love seeing all your progress!!

  8. Sferra, available on the Horchow site, has high quality at a decent price. If there is a Frette outlet on the west coast of Florida, their white towels are often on sale. If not, the outlet in Sawgrass Mills on the east coast, will ship. I agree that the quality of the RL towels has significantly decreased. I love coral and think that a coral Chinoiserie monogram on white is the way to go—or you can match that stunning lacquer paint in the guest bath.

  9. That coral-pink-watermelon color, (whatever you want to call it), in the top picture, is one of my absolute favorite colors. If one were to treat the colored towels more like a delicate garment when washing, would that prevent the color from fading? For some reason, colored towels are difficult to find right now. Like fashion, they cycle and come in then go out of popularity. In the 90's Ralph went public with his company. When that happens, you give up a degree of control. I believe he wants to buy it back, but am not sure if he has done so yet.

Do you happen to know what that grass cloth is in Danielle's bathroom, Beth? It is just gorgeous! Thanks Beth.

    1. The grass cloth might be Thibaut Pacific Weave.

  10. I also shop at Horchow and usually buy the Neiman Marcus Collection towels, which are made by Matouk. There has been a coral option in the past, but I am not seeing it online right now. Perhaps sold out. Keep checking back. Sometimes I can find Peacock Alley at Tuesday Morning!

    2. I tend to go to the one near the Landings. There used to be another location in Osprey and I loved that one, but it closed.

  11. I ordered some darling towels with a pagoda and initials from someone on IG. The embroidery was great but the quality of the towels was very poor. If I ever do a custom order again I will either supply the towels or specify what they use. I have purchased the Nordstrom hydrocotton towels for many years because they are very soft and hold up well. They are on sale during the annual sales.

  12. If these towels are for the BR with the FABU Tandoori lacqurered wainscoting/etc I think the white towels w/coral monogramming/trim would pop more - AND you can match the thread to the Tandoori woodwork. Watching your vision come to life is such fun!!

    1. No, these are for me for the master bath. I feel like it could use a fun pop of color. The Tandoori is the guest bath.

  14. I think you might find these type towels at Bella Lino or Matouk. They both have many beautiful options.

  15. I had Matouk towels, but they only lasted a year as they began to fray on the edges. Moved to Company Store's top of the line Luxury Estate turkish bath sheets, monogrammed. These are very heavy and absorbent. Love them best! Watch for a coupon or reduced pricing. Neimans is headed to bankruptcy; not sure how that will effect their inventory?

The guest towel of Danielle's looks like a Weezie, indeed.

    Your painters are wonderful.

    2. Sad to hear about your experience with Matouk. I've had them for many years, no issues. I always forget about the Company Store. Thanks for the reminder.

  16. I'm in the white towel camp and the white sheet camp as well. Crisp, clean, welcoming. So fun that you get to move your clothes in...that should take about a week! (Not including the shoes!!!!!. Can't wait to see this closet say: I'm home!).

  17. Speaking of towels, I found the old quality, thick, and non snag variety at Garnet Hill. Don't know if they have your colors.

  18. Unfortunately, Ralph Lauren is no longer licensing their sheets and towels with West Point Mills.

Have you reached out to Danielle? She seems friendly and might share.

  19. Came here to mention Garnet Hill. They come in lots of colors. My MIL has a monogrammed set in lime green for her guest room that are beautiful and are a nice thick weight. Can't speak to durability, as she just got them, but they feel good for now!

  20. I bought a set of silver-plate bamboo flatware from Neiman's 15 years ago. It was service for 8 and $99 (on sale)! I've washed it in the dishwasher most every day and it only needs polishing every few months. It looks as lovely as the sterling. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the bamboo flatware!

  21. Hi Beth - I used to have Blue Willow towels. Sadly they all eventually faded. I replaced them with white on white embroidered towels. I know that sounds strange. But white on white is elegant and bleachable. I fell in love with the look when I saw my friend's needlepoint chairs. The background was off-white wool. The design was worked in matching silk - absolutely gorgeous, subtle and elegant. There are people on Etsy who do beautiful custom embroidery. Horchow, Neimans & Frontgate have beautiful sculpted towels and bath mats. It's so much fun to shop vicariously with you!
