Laundry Rooms Past and Present

I have had several requests for photos of my old laundry room that I did for the One Room Challenge. I do miss this room. It was huge as you can see, and a pleasure to do laundry, ironing, crafts, and flower arranging. The wonderful wallpaper is the discontinued Brunschwig & Fils "Ironing Bored."

Although my new laundry room will be much smaller (this one was 250 square feet), it will be darling.

I have the wallpaper to use.

I got this beachy rattan pendant at Lowe's.

I am looking today for a new laundry sink in stainless steel - the current one is plastic. The laundry room has built in white cabinets, but the knobs are sad and I need some really fun ones - so I just ordered these on Etsy.

Hope you enjoyed this post. The house is really coming together beautifully. The painters should be out tomorrow.

  1. I would really recommend a composite granite sink for your laundry room instead of a stainless steel sink. I had the composite granite sink in Texas and it looked great when it was first installed and 8 years later when I moved. It was in my kitchen but I think it would be lovely in a laundry room as well.

    1. I need a wall mounted or stand alone utility sink. There is not a counter. Not sure if they come like that,

    2. I have not seen a composite granite utility sink that stands alone. If I find one I will reply back.

  2. A fun walk down memory lane. Such a joy-filled space! Can't wait to see the new edition. We replaced the old plastic tub with a plastic tub because at that time I used it to wash paint brushes! When we moved the washer and dryer to the basement, I had stainless deep utility tub installed. Since the husbands has on his "rap sheet" that he "accidentally" broke my tortilla press. He "accidentally tore the new plastic tub off the wall. I told my plumber about the real reason for replacing the plastic tub. He installed the stainless sink (pedestal no cabinet) per "prison specs"!!! LOL! I love the depth because it acts as a backsplash and can accommodate larger items for soaking. When you have the plumber out, you might consider having him/or someone he recommends to clean/replace the ducts for the dryer. I've learned that the rigid type material is safer than the flex tubing. We want to make sure you are happy and safe in the CC dream house!

    1. Yes, that is what would work there. Good idea on the dryer vent.

  8. What a darling room! My first studio apt. in NYC was about that size and not as charming.

LOVE those knobs! Perfect with the pendant light. Don't you just love it when a few inexpensive finds make it all come together?

  9. Chic laundry room! I especially like the black and white flooring and the peg board which is always offers great storage.

I see you use a front load washer. Always interested in hearing the opinions on these. I chose an old fashioned top load recently because I feel the fl washers just smell funny all the time. Door has to be left open which is somewhat annoying. Has anyone found a fl model that smells fresh and clean after usage without leaving then door open and/or using a washer cleaner regularly?

    1. I love the job they do on wash but not that aspect. At any rate, the new house has a brand new space age top loader.

  10. In my experience, you gotta keep that door cracked or open whether it's FL or TL--at least til you can make sure it's totally dry inside.

  11. Love those door knobs! It's the small touches! They will make the room! Are you planning to use that very happy wicker wall hanging in this room as well? You have accomplished so much in such a short time. Eagerly await each day's post/progress!

    1. Thanks - I haven't decided on where the wicker wall hanging will go. Maybe not in there, it is such a small room and I don't want to cover up the wallpaper. Thanks for following.

  12. Definitely composite sink! So over stainless sinks. I have the composite in my laundry also did a small sink sink instead of the huge thing they put in laundry rooms, more counter space that way.

  13. I'm transfixed by those knobs, but can't find them on Etsy. I told the husband he may have to make them for me. He gave me the fish eye
