HomeGoods Secrets

I have always been a really good bargain shopper. And I love to shop. But for me, it's the thrill of the hunt. Anyone with enough money can go and spend a fortune on something. For me, to find a gorgeous item for pennies on the dollar is fantastic. Many of you have commented and emailed asking about my HomeGoods store. Do you really think I am going to reveal my special store? Well of course I am, because you are my gang. I find all of my great stuff at the Bee Ridge store in Sarasota. Personally, I think the stores in Venice and at UTC are a waste of time and space. Generic trendy stuff. I have been to both countless times and have never found one thing.

But lots of you are not in this area, so here are my HomeGoods shopping tips.

1.  Shop Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. They tend to restock on Monday. Weekends are busy and picked over.

2. Buy it if you love it, you can always return it. It won't be there if you go back for it and you will kick yourself.

3. Look for red tag items. All three of my Chaddock Home Mary McDonald items were red tag (further markdown) in the Clearance section. These yahoos down here don't know Mary McDonald from Old McDonald's Farm. Ei ei oh!

4. Look for designer items, not knock off trendy junk.

5. Shop all the aisles - I find great things everywhere - gourmet foods, dog items, cleaning supplies, gift wrap, etc. etc.

6. They offer delivery for big items.

7. My favorite departments are furniture, linens, home decor, lamps, and art. The art used to be awful, but mine at least has gotten really good.

8. Go consistently - once a week - stock changes daily.

Happy shopping and don't buy anything at Bee Ridge with my name on it. LOL

PS - I should have mentioned they have dedicated hours for Seniors, they limit the number of customers, employees are all masked, sanitize the carts, have Plexiglas at checkout, have enlarged aisles, some aisles are one way - I feel they have done a very good job at making things safe. Fellow shoppers are very polite and 99% have masks and social distance. Kudos to HomeGoods.

PPS - After my post yesterday on the raffia pendant, they are close to selling out (I bought mine this time before posting), so grab it if you want one.

  4. That side table is divine! Adore Mary McD’s style. That chair is fantastic. Alas, in both N.Y. and Boca, we do not see designer items except for RL lamps and rugs.

    1. Strange given the demographics there. But lucky for me. Thanks.

  5. Oh Beth, you’re a gal after my own heart. Best thing ever is finding a great bargain on something fabulous, like your Mary McDonald chair, BIG SCORE! I have 3 Home Goods very close to me but I’m so envious because it sounds like your HG is an A+ store, mine are just average. And it’s true, you have to go ALL the time and some stores are better than others, you’re very lucky to have such a great one in your area.

  6. Another gem of a post! I have a suggestion. Find a way to put five blank stars at the end of each post that can record a vote from 1 to 5 at the bottom so we can give you instant feedback on how great the post was without writing a comment. Today's post is 5 stars because only an insider with tons of experience would know your Home Goods shopping tips. We are incredibly lucky to get them from you!The Enchanted Home was always my favorite blog but I think your blog is edging Tina out with these moving and decorating posts. LOVE THEM!

  7. I'm not sure how Homegoods stocks their stores. I'm assuming that they gather their merchandise from local sources, but I may be mistaken. If so, your chosen store must be in an upscale area where people redecorate often, and let go of the things they no longer want frequently. I've found the Homegoods store closest to me to be very disappointing. I've only gone there twice, and never gone back.

    1. And this is such a hot real estate market and lots of people buying second homes and completely furnishing them from scratch.

  8. I found a group of canvas nesting baskets with beaded handles for the
top shelf of my closet to hold my wallets, belts and gloves at Home Goods, before
I had plastic bins, soo dated. I redid my closet in January and also found
these lovely tassel handled larger square ins for my purses at BHG for Walmart.
I saw them on another blog and ran out to get them, love them. You may also find great products in the Nina Campbell home line for Stein Mart, I got a cute
canvas laundry basket there that ties everything together.

  11. That is my favorite local HG location as well. It is hit or miss. I'm not a big shopper, but if I am in the area, I swing by even if I have nothing on my shopping list. You never know.
