One Rug Challenge Part 2
Here we are in week two of the One Rug Challenge, also known as the Paint a Rug Party. Since there is no food or alcohol involved, I prefer to call it a "challenge" and not a "party." Click here to read last week's post on part one of this challenge.
This past week my goal was to locate a runner. In searching for a flat weave white runner, I discovered that they don't seem to exist. Jennifer from The Pink Pagoda had the same experience trying to locate one, so Linda from My Crafty Home Life made her one. Glad there are no rules here because...
I was at Crate and Barrel with a client looking at rugs and spotted this Olin runner (top right). Exactly what I was looking for and the black and white stripes are already done for me!!!!! The perfect size - 2' by 6', a great price - $49.99, and all I have to do is paint one orange stripe and one pink stripe. I can do that and I will have painted my rug. Unless Linda will drive down from New Jersey and paint it for me.
Now I am off to delve into the crazy world of paint to use on a rug - do I use acrylic craft paint or latex with a fabric medium or fabric paint? Too bad this isn't a party - I need a drink....
Here are the participants -

Lucky you! Why didn't I think of this?!
ReplyDeleteYou are one smart cookie, Beth! You're going to be enjoying a glass of wine while we're all up to eyeballs in tape & paint!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I want Linda to drive to Madison and paint mine too... I will provide food and alcohol!
ReplyDeleteI just got done leaving another comment lamenting the lack of wine at Michael's. They are missing out. We all want wine with crafts.
ReplyDeleteAcrylic paint and latex are basically the same. I liked using it with fabric medium but it is not a must.
Your rug looks perfect, and how great that you only have to add a couple of stripes! When the painting part of this actually begins, the margarita machine may have to come out of storage!
ReplyDeleteGreat plan, wish I had thought of it.
ReplyDeleteThat is brilliant! what a terrific find...the pink and orange are going to look perfect added to this rug, Beth! (And I'll bet if you offer Linda some vino she'll be in that car right away to paint those stripes for you).
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm having my first ever give-away over on vivid hue and I'd love for your to pop over and enter!

Can I send my parents instead? They don't DIY, but they will drive you to drink! This was a brilliant improvised move. One that many will copy, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I wish I would have thought of that. I'll be painting stripes for the rest of my life!
ReplyDeleteI love the rug you chose as inspiration. I am glad you are choosing stronger shades to add to the b&w stripes. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your idea! I will offer someone a case of wine if they will just come do my rug for me!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you.....uncork it now! You are a girl after my own heart....2 stripes and your done.
ReplyDeleteThat is the funniest thing ever!!! That is so me:). Love the DIY for the non-DIY-ers. I can't even imagine the mess I would make out of a WHITE rug!! Enjoy your wine! Kathleen
ReplyDeleteYou are so, so funny! Good choice on the rug!!! Can't WAIT to see it!!!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! o wish I had thought of that!
