Sunday Inspiration
Did you get that massive Restoration Hardware Spring 2012 catalog in the mail this week? It weighs as much as my dog! I have really fallen in love with their new Dumpster Collection. In this economy, it makes so much sense to spend thousands and thousands of dollars, yet have your home look like you found the furniture on the side of the road. Reverse chic. Chairman and CEO of Restoration Hardware Gary Friedman says it was inspired by Apple's Steve Jobs, "void of dogma, full of passion, and most importantly, represents our aspirations for what we want to become." Truly inspirational Gary! See the entire collection here. Read Friedman's inspiring Carpe Diem letter here. For more inspiration, check out these previous posts of mine here and here.

Thought I smelled a rat! Too funny ~ way to go.
ReplyDeleteI notice the April 1 date of your post, ha ha ha! But, as distasteful and ridiculous as I found the so-called deconstructed collection, the RH outdoor catalog which was delivered in the same bundle, has some gorgeous real (not plastic) planters that I haven't seen elsewhere. See pp. 232-234 especially.
ReplyDeleteLOL! YUCK!!! Always look forward to your April 1 posts...know you are going to pull a rabbit out of a hat for us!!
ReplyDeleteDumpster Chic! HA!!! I love it! Happy April Fools.
ReplyDeletePS - Spotted this on Circa Who the other day and thought of you. Have you seen it? Any luck on your greek key patio set search?

Very clever!! I agree the outdoor collection is nice, but this attempt to recreate antiques that my first thought is to reupholster immediately, is a bit much!! If I want burlap deconstructed antiques then I will wait for Brimfield Antique fair and then tastefully recover them in a simple flax linen..Great Post!!!
ReplyDeleteI slept in and am still waking up. The confusion of the ugliness being on CC was quite a shock until I started reading. This is the type of stuff I really can't stand. And there'll be so many people who think that since it's in Restoration Hardware it must be just the thing. I have no idea of pricing, but I'm guessing you have to pay a pretty penny for furniture and accessories this bad.
ReplyDeleteHaha...you got me, again! I fell for the goodbye last year! I was shocked at the waste of money RH spent on all that shipping. How non-green of you, RH!! Can we talk about the over-botoxed Gary?
ReplyDeleteBahahaha
ReplyDeleteI wonder how sales of this line have been.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon!
ReplyDeleteI just have to say that I totally disagree with your view here. I too got the catalogs in the mail, and I was totally disappointed! As an artist and designer, I see a grey, oat and beige landscape of monochromatic depression! Seriously - where is the life, the people, energy and surprise? Reflects the economy? Get the "dumpster" sofa for around $3000? While some accessories and lighting options are very nice, as well as the forms, my overall take away was - this collection needs an anti-depressant!
Ok, great April fool's on me!!!!! Thank goodness!!!
ReplyDeletehahaha! good one!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! I got the RH catalogue the other day - and I just was so bored with it. A lot of $ for something that looks like I have to take it to my upholstery guy. I love the old furniture look - but this is going to far!!
ReplyDeleteI am going to check out your Chinoiserie Idea Book on Houzz.
Thanks...
Linda
I clearly don't handle jokes well!! You totally got me ... I kept reading and re-reading ... and so thankful I clicked on the comments!! I was horrified. But am going to be even more horrified when people start buying this! Happy April!
