Gilded Faux Bamboo

Nate Berkus - A pair of gold Chinese Chippendale chairs
We have all seen lots of vintage brass faux bamboo pieces as well as metal faux bamboo painted gold. But I am becoming increasingly intrigued with the idea of either gilding or painting gold a vintage faux bamboo piece of wooden or rattan furniture. I love gold bamboo mirrors and picture frames and this would be a fresh way to use it. Here is some inspiration.

  1. I really like these pieces, too! I have an old wooden side table that I am planning on 'gilding.' It's not chinois, but I think it will look fab in gold, as well.

  2. I'm redoing some brass sconces. I'm not sure whether to use the gold leaf process or to spray black and use Rub 'n Buff over it—or a combination of both with the gold leaf providing texture and the Rub 'n Buff to take down the shine. I was lead into this direction after buying a light fixture (new) billed as "gilded iron": yup-the old Rub 'n Buff over metal!

  3. This is a marvelous idea and well worth trying. Love the gold...and Rub 'n Buff is great for gilding!

  4. I have a fabulous faux bamboo chair I purchased at an estate sale. It's been glazed a hideous green color and I've been trying to decide what to do with it. Gold leafing would be amazing on it. I'll need to find out who in the Dallas area can do that for me as I'm NOT going to attempt it myself!!

  5. I totally love the Nate Berkus living room. It's so multi-dimensional.
