Allyn Cox, the American muralist, painted the Chinoiserie walls as the setting for a pair of Chinese pagodas from the Royal Pavilion at Brighton, for the entryway and staircase of Anne Vanderbilt's Sutton Place townhouse (New York City, 1921).
