One of my favorite wall treatments for the Chinoiserie room is grasscloth. Green, environmentally friendly, elegant, textural, warm, and sophisticated, it can be made from sea grass, jute, hemp, arrowroot, rush, sisal, or bamboo. It is particularly great in new houses where it gives much needed instant character. Grasscloth comes in every color and can be found screen printed or embroidered in countless or even custom patterns. Interior designers adore the papers of Phillip Jeffries. ReplyDeleteI love grasscloth, especially in a vibrant color -- it adds so much texture to a room. I also like it when the grasscloth is hung so the pattern runs vertically; it adds a whole new level of interest and can really make ceilings look taller.

ReplyDeleteI have burlap wall covering in my family room and Phillip Jeffries raffia in my bedroom and absolutely love the feel they lend to those spaces! Expensive but a huge bang for the buck!
I have the same exact mirror as the green one in photo #7 but it's gold leaf. I never considered it could be transformed in such a manner! Even though it's fabulous in green, I'm not sure I could do it :)

ReplyDeleteI love grasscloth. I also like some of the updated versions with graphics. The Suzanne Kasler dining room is stunning. I found inspiration for my own dining room from that design.

ReplyDeleteGrasscloth is my favorite when it is used on walls. My friend has it in her two upstairs bathrooms and I hadn't seen it in person before this. Using it as "wallpaper" is a great alternative to using it as a rug! (sometimes grasscloth isn't the coziest on your feet!)

ReplyDeleteLovely images...thanks for sharing! I love grasscloth, when done right it is timeless, elegant and provides subtle sophistication to a room! I recently used a tone on tone glasscloth in a client's foyer and the result is beautiful.
