This small but gorgeous kitchen by Miles Redd was featured in the July House Beautiful. Rather than rip out the existing laminate kitchen cabinets, Miles simply had them painted in Bamboo Leaf by Fine Paints of Europe. Their Hollandlac Brilliant is a perfect paint for this type of use. It is an ultra durable marine grade paint that will give you a very high gloss enamel finish. This green is a wonderful choice. Other ideas for a Chinoiserie lacquer look include red, yellow, or black. Lacquer has been used in China and Japan since 7000 BC for its beautiful and durable finish. Fines Paints of Europe does an incredible job of creating this lacquer look. This idea is elegant, green in every sense of the word as you are upcycling your existing cabinets, and budget friendly.
i thought this was genius. i can't get this kitchen out of my head! seriously.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it.
Paul Pincus-Just think that all those sad white laminate cabinets could be this-brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI know everyone LOVES this kitchen, but I can't stand it. It's just toooo green and shiny for me.
ReplyDeleteI was just looking at this kitchen the other day, and I find it so interesting. Thanks for posting :)
ReplyDeleteLove your blog too btw!
One of my absolute favorite colors. And they're absolutely reflective - that finish is marvelous. I've never tried this brand, but I need to bookmark it for the future.
ReplyDeleteMeg-I personally LOVE it, but I know not everyone loves green. I thinks it's a wonderful idea in this tough economy to give laminate or old wood cabinets a new lease on life with little expense.
ReplyDeleteDagny-It has some wonderful ideas to copy. Thanks and thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteSF-This paint does amazing lacquered walls too-the subject of an upcoming post.
ReplyDeleteLove it, and though I am positive the painting technique must be flawless- it can be done without 10 of thousands of $$. la
ReplyDeleteI used this paint on my kitchen cabinets in my previous home but not in this color ;-D It requires stringent prepping and priming with the manufacturer's primer, but the paint goes on beautifully if you have prepped well. It also comes in a satin finish that is to die for. I can't recommend this paint highly enough.
ReplyDeleteLittle Augury-Agree, but obviously a high end look for not much money. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeletePrime Time Mom-I have seen it used on many front doors and it is stunning. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteAgain & again, over & over Miles just takes it further along. Verde genius!!!
ReplyDeleteAlicia-Miles is uber talented.
ReplyDeletePeople do either love this or hate it. I love it!!! In fact I'm crazy about it. Not to mention if prepped properly (as Prime Time said) you can reuse solid, better made materials. And the shiny paint would be easier to scrub off spaghetti sauce splatterings.
ReplyDeleteSoodie-I adore it. It is sophisticated, modern, elegant, and a budget and eco-friendly way to use what you have.
ReplyDeleteOne of my very favorite kitchens XXX
ReplyDeleteDumbwit Tellher-Love it too-Miles is a genius.
ReplyDeleteI have gross laminate cabinets.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...this does give me an idea.
But I know that I couldn't be that bold with this green.
I think that a trip to the paint store will be fun.
Now there is my gross countertops...
Grant-lacquer them a great color and stainless steel countertops.
