The Chinoiserie Bathroom

Brunschwig & Fils Xian

One of my favorite Chinoiserie patterns of all time - Brunschwig & Fils Xian. I have a pair of curtains in this fabric and a pair of Chinese Chippendale counter stools covered in it - looking for spots in the house for them. This bathroom is darling -  the gold mirror, the vanity, and the shelves are all wonderful. I wonder why they left the shelves bare though??? But with a pattern as dramatic as this, one can go pretty minimalist.

On a side note, does anyone have a favorite source for rare/unusual plants? I have a landscape degree and am a master gardener and I'm getting really getting into horticulture down here in Florida - I have been to three botanical gardens in the past two weeks. But of course what I fall in love with are obscure hard to find plants. Would love any favorite sources you might share.

  1. I recommend you look into your local garden club. Although I am a Florida girl thru and thru we always lived on the water somewhere between the Keys and Palm Beach until moving to a oak hammock hill on Central Florida's Treasure Coast. I found very different to garden so I recently joined the local garden club where I'm finding a wealth of education and being introduced to new gardens every month. The resources statewide are vast. I'm envious of your master gardener status! Impressive. Pamela

  4. Check out Plant Delights.THE source for buying native, rare, and unique perennials.
Online source. They are open during each season on select dates. If you ever in the RDU triangle check dates for their open houses. It is such a special place to tour during any season.
Owner Tony Advent is a PBS regular.
From the site; "At any time, this website has over 1500 online nursery plants for sale. Many of our best perennials are available nowhere else in the US as they represent rare plants collected by Plant Delights founder Tony Avent during his more than 60 plant hunting expeditions to places like China, Crete, Taiwan, South Africa and Argentina or distributed by some of the many specialty plant organizations of which Plant Delights is a member."

    1. Yes, I have ordered from Plant Delights before, but checked yesterday and neither are available. I think I need to do more research online into someplace specializing in tropicals. Thanks!

  5. Who doesn't love a rare and unusual plant? Probably the best place to find them is at a plant sale at a botanic garden. If you join you local botanic gardens they will likely send you info on when the plant sales will be held. If you volunteer, you could get to know the propogaters who would likely show-off their best plants and help you keep them alive once you buy them at the plant sale. Or, you could just sign up for a newsletter on their website. Another great place to find interesting plants that are also edible is the Rare Fruit Growers club. We have them in California, so I assume you are likely to have them in Florida too. Two ideas for plants to purchase: First, every Chinoiserie garden needs a Camellia sinensis. Then, what about that plant with it's own room at Grandma's house in Crazy Rich Asians? I think it's some sort of tropical cactus with that beautiful bloom.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you back. Best wishes!

  7. The most glamorous bathroom ever! It's so good to have you back, and be re-united with your beautiful blue and white (and other colors) world. I have missed it- it always has been a day brightener, especially in grey and wet Oregon. Thank you!
