The Chinoiserie Dining Room

Chad Hoeft Designs
I am in the idea stage right now of my upcoming dining room redo. I really love the idea of a round pedestal table since my dining room is square. I am still debating whether to use contrasting chairs with the white Chinese Chippendale chairs I will be getting. Do you like this look?

  2. Love it..but I am having the same dilemma! I have a center pedestal table with Chinese Chippendale armchairs found on ebay- but I can't get myself to paint them either.
My curtains are blue and white toile, and we painted the walls in a coral pink, with lots of blue and white antique transferware displayed in a hutch..

  3. I just love this look. Contrasting chairs have always been a favorite of mine--they add a bit of whimsy and are less predictable. Just two acting as 'captains' can have a significant impact.

  4. The Chad Hoeft Designs dining room you posted today is gorgeous. Combining Chinese Chippendale side chairs and upholstered chairs in your redesigned dining room is quite a creative approach. Are you contemplating alternating them around the round table?

  5. Yes. Definitely. Mix up the chairs. I think the days of having a matched set of chairs (or anything for that matter) are O V E R. So yesterday. Alternatively, upholster the (same style) chairs in different fabrics.

  6. I don't envy you this decision: I feel it looming for me in the next year as well....I love those statement chairs mixed in or at the head of the table combined with your chinese chippendale chairs...and I adore a round table....those chairs can be pressed into service in other areas of your home, should the need arise....but whatever you decide, I know it will be a fabulous look! Crossing my fingers for you!

  8. Love it! I have a round table now and can't imagine ever going back to rectangle. And I full endorse the addition of a couple of contrasting chairs with the chippendale chairs. My heart swoons over this look!

  9. I say go for the mix. In my new dining room/library, I'm using a round table, pulling up the two leather chairs from the fireplace area when needed and using four chairs at the round table. If additional seating/leaf in table required, I'll use acrylic or bamboo folding chairs. I want this room to live for us on a daily basis, not just for dining. Can't wait to see what you pick.

  10. Just switched to a maguire table and wish bone chairs. Love the clean up with the glass top.

  11. I love the mix! I do prefer a curved back chair with a round table as opposed to a flat back chair..... just saying. I like the octagon table in the Hilary Thomas image with a flat back chair.
