Pomegranates

Flower Magazine

This is the beautiful cover of the November - December 2023 edition of Flower Magazine. I especially like the platter filled with pomegranates. I was in Publix yesterday and they had a fresh shipment of pomegranates in and I bought several.

Pomegranates are a beautiful and versatile holiday decoration, perfect for centerpieces, wreaths, and garlands. Their rich, ruby color can be showcased by displaying them in natural bowls with greenery and berries, or by using them as standalone accents. The pomegranate represents both birth and everlasting life in Christianity. The Song of Solomon compares the cheeks of a bride behind her veil to the two halves of a pomegranate.

Pomegranates last a couple of weeks at room temperature and a couple of months refrigerated. For display, polish pomegranates with a clean microfiber cloth. To enhance their shine, add a drop or two of a neutral oil to the cloth like vegetable oil, canola oil, or olive oil and polish.

Pomegranates look especially beautiful in silver bowls.

  1. Pomegranate skins were burned and used as an ingredient of ink, writing of scrolls, as example, for long lasting ink. Many of those scrolls we now call, Bible !
