Banquettes have migrated from your favorite place to sit in a restaurant, to the breakfast room/eat-in kitchen to the dining room. Now banquettes are popping up in the living room and with good reason. They are a space saving way to create a second seating area perfect for reading, a cup of coffee, a cocktail, a light meal, hors d'oeuvres, conversation, and especially for entertaining. Here are some wonderful examples, each, of course, with a Chinoiserie influence. Above, the Banquette Room of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Paris, 1946.Tuesday, February 2, 2010

I am a huge fan of banquettes for so many reasons! They can be quite simple or quite extravagent. I did a posting of the one in my kitchen and I also have one in our living room (not yet posted). Love the ones you have picked to share!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas here. Everytime I see that Alessandra Branca yellow wall I drool.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Miles Redd also rocks a wicked banquette.
ReplyDeleteI love how many of these banquettes make otherwise wasted corners useful. Love the Alessandra Branca room in particular.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Mario Buatta's. I have wanted a banquette as long as I can remember; do I have one, sadly no. I have not one wall conducive to doing so in this particular home. Averill was creating a beautiful space with one I remember reading.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well this week? x
I am crazy for banquettes or any kind of cozy bench seating. I have a file full of pictures. I really enjoyed yours!
ReplyDeleteHamptontoes-I would love to plan one for my living room.
ReplyDeleteSusie-It's even more beautiful in person.
ReplyDeleteScott-He can do no wrong.
ReplyDeleteAverill-Hers are perfection.
ReplyDeleteDeb-Maybe it's time to do one!
ReplyDeleteA & A-The trick is finding photos with Chinoiserie elements!
ReplyDeleteI love Mario Buatta !!! He adores dog paintings and chintz! If I win the lottery - he is doing my home! LOL
ReplyDeleteI adore turkish banquettes and consider them to be absolute chic. Such a sensible means of utilizing difficult corners in many rooms in houses of style and elegance. Am particularly fond of the Windsor's room in the watercolor by Alexandre Serebriakoff, a great favorite. Most enjoyable post!
ReplyDeleteLady Jicky-He has always been one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteReggie Darling-A timeless and classic look for any home.
