Stay At Home Shopping

Brass Palm Tree Sculpture

I have been trying to to enjoy shopping online as an alternative to shopping in person at stores. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention....

I have been looking for a great palm piece for my coffee table and fell in love with this brass and lucite palm sculpture at Williams Sonoma Home. It was even on sale. So I put it into my shopping cart and starting checking out and it tells me that it is not available online, but just in stores, and all their stores are closed. A corona conundrum. Customer service confirmed this. I tried in vain to find someone selling it on eBay or Poshmark or elsewhere. Have you had the experience of finding something you just had to have and it was discontinued or out of stock or whatever? Very frustrating.

Years ago, Lonny featured the bedroom of Lonny founder Michelle Adams with the Kate Spade Cloverdale Rose Bowl. People went nuts over it. Unfortunately, it had been discontinued. Bloggers were posting their own DIY hacks, and bidding wars erupted on eBay when one was listed.

I was patient, and kept checking eBay after the sensation calmed down, and eventually found a brand new one on eBay at a great price. It took me five years of hunting, but I finally got one.

In the meantime,  I found it in its other cylindrical style at HomeGoods. Here it is in my previous home office.

These are my favorite vases and two of my favorite pieces. Hopefully, I will have the same sort of experience with the brass palm. At least I am safe at home. Have you had a similar experience hunting down an elusive piece?

And I am making progress in my walk-in closet as promised. Here is my bracelet drawer -

  1. I wanted the Nate Berkus turtle shell at Target years ago so so much!! I was not in a position to purchase at the time (medical situation going on with my daughter) but I have looked for tortoiseshell wall decor ever since and particularly that one. It shows up on eBay every once in a while but for more than I'm willing to pay. I did find a neat metal shell at Goodwill which I painted and I love. Maybe one day I will find the Nate Berkus one!!

    1. Keep checking on eBay - it depends on the color you want, but they are often listed at various prices.

    2. I have even seen them at Goodwill locally (from Target directly)

  2. Ha ha! I laughed out loud when I read your top three hobbies, Beth. I'm surprised William Sonoma Home doesn't offer a curbside pickup for their customers. Lots of retailers do, but maybe you do not live close enough to a store.

    1. The stores are all shut down, so no curbside pickup unfortunately.

  3. I have the saddest story about hunting down an elusive piece... I watched eBay for seven years, trying to find Jonathan Adler's prancing horse sculpture. When I finally found and bought one, the seller shipped it in an oversize cardboard box with its heavy metal base and nothing but a few sheets of newspaper, and it arrived on my doorstep shattered into a million pieces! The hunt continues....

    1. Oh no! I have had a few experiences like that on eBay, but thankfully most experienced sellers know how to pack things. But I do tend to be more enthusiastic about non-breakables so I don't have to be so worried.
