Chinoiserie Cocktails

Domaine de Canton has quickly become the "it" liqueur, and with good reason. It is made in France in the tradition of colonial indochine in which ginger infused elixirs were blended with fine Cognac. Fresh baby ginger is cut by hand, twice infused with Grande Champagne VSOP Cognac, and then blended with vanilla and orange blossoms from Provence. Its flavor is fresh, intense, satiny, and clean. It can be enjoyed straight up, on the rocks, or in a myriad of cocktails. It is wonderful in a margarita or a mojito. Try it over vanilla ice cream for dessert. It makes an amazing seviche. The bottle is strikingly beautiful, with its black stripes and pagoda styling. The picture above is in my living room where I always keep a bottle on display. The last picture is of a very swank Show House Gala in Beverly Hills named "Chinoiserie au Jardin" hosted by Mary McDonald and Nathan Turner where guests drank Domaine de Canton cocktails with lime, fresh mint, and a fresh gardenia garnish. The bottom line is that the taste is sublime, the bottle is stunning, and it costs about $30. Go treat yourself-cheers!

  1. G-Thanks-that's the large canvas I did in the top photo-homage to Cy Twombly, but the lighting isn't the best on it.

  3. Stefan-It's worth it for the bottle, but it is absolutely delicious.

  4. Never tried this (I don't tend to do a lot of mixed drinks), but I definitely need to. The bottle alone would be stunning in my bar!

Btw, Beth, what's the paint color in your foyer?

  5. Averill-The paint color is Farrow & Ball Bone which is the quietest and most elegant of greens. It is sublime with ice blue, coral pink, yellow, and a gorgeous backdrop for art. As for Domaine de Canton, it is gorgeous and delicious!

  6. Beth, I love your ghost chair. What is leaning against the wall behind it? It is a large canvas with script on it? I love layered look of the canvas with the dresser and the chair.

  8. Abby-I bought a large canvas from Michael's for $40 and a DecoColor Liquid Gold marker. Then, inspired by Cy Tombly's calligraphic art, I did freestyle script. The lighting on this is terrible-I promise to start working at better photography skills, but it is a fun and easy idea and I love it!

  10. Wonderful post Beth! I just really love how you have taken this blog so far beyond normal ideas about chinoiserie.
I know it's been suggested before, but really, really: there needs to be a definitive chinoiserie book. "The Chinoiserie Life" or something?

  11. SF-I love the title. I think Rizzoli or Simon & Schuster (Nina-are you reading this? ;) will realize the interest in Chinoiserie. Maybe when the economy picks up a bit more.

  13. This is so great, I am helping a friend re-do her family room that has a wet bar. Stocking the bar with great glassware & bar tools is an idea that i gave her for a gift to her hubby for father's day.
I will give a bottle of Domaine De Canton as a gift to tie the project up & celebrate with!
I love bloggy friends like you. You keep me in the loop on great stuff like this!

  14. Lisa-You are so right-great glassware and bar tools make all the difference. This bottle will be a great gift. Also tell her just the small glass bottles of mixers like Coke, Bitter Lemon, etc. They look so cute!

  20. Oh my gosh! My foyer is the same as your living room! I have a little console table covered in mirrored glass, on one side is a Ghost chair, on the other a Chinese garden stool. Instead of a painting I have a huge clock on top of the console. I'll show you a pic one time =D
