The Viral Ginori Dupes

CCC

Did I lose my mind and spend a fortune on Ginori Oriente Italiano plates? No ma'am. These are the viral Dillard's Southern Living Collection dupes. Aren't they incredible? And did I mention they are $14 each?

They are sold out online and it is hit or miss at Dillard's stores. I really wanted these, but the Dillard's near me are a distance north and south and not terribly convenient and I have been incredibly busy. On Friday, my neighbor said she was on her way to Dillard's and I asked her to check if by chance they had these and I sent her a photo.

She called shortly after and said they had all three colors! I told her I wanted two of each and could she get them bubble wraped and boxed. She delivered them a couple of hours later so beautifully wrapped - each in layers of Dillard's monogrammed tissue paper and individually bubble wrapped, then each pair bubble wrapped, then all six bubble wrapped and boxed. It is the same when I order from Dillard's online. Everything comes perfectly and safely packed.

Dillard's reminds me of the great departed department stores of my past like Marshall Field's and Garfinkel's. Such a pleasure to shop at Dillard's in person and online. And there is no Frances Valentine brick and mortar store here, but the Dillard's at UTC has a Frances Valentine store in store.

I love all three colors -

Here is the green Ginori salad plate for $130 -

Ginori Oriente Italiano Salad Plate in Green

I got all six for under $90 with tax. And they are gorgeous, scalloped like the Ginori, and are dishwasher and microwave safe. And these are ceramic dinnerware, not melamine.

BTW, these are only available in salad plate size. But they will pair so well with lots of china. They will pair beautifully with both my sets of wedding china. Is it so odd that my wedding china I chose decades ago is chinoiserie? I didn't even know the word back then. And my childhood home was mid century modern with Danish furniture - teak and rosewood with lots of black and abstract art. Not a ginger jar in sight.

As Shakespeare would say, get thee to a Dillard's ("Get thee to a nunnery" - Hamlet to Ophelia). Hopefully you will have luck too. I didn't even have to leave my home! Keep me posted if you find some. There are 272 Dillard's stores spanning 30 states! Florida has the second most after Texas.

Happy Father's Day and happy first day of summer and happy chinoiserie hunting too!

  1. Those plates are awesome! My first wedding china was Kutani Crane....Seemingly very random as we were deep in the Americana rustic trend at the time.

  2. I have the Red Chinese Tigers by Wedgewood but I love your green too. I think these blue salad plate would be stunning with mine.

    1. I love both colors. I have the red in a large bowl that is stunning. I would choose this pattern today. The blue would be very pretty - these plates play well with others.

  3. The Ginori dupes are beautiful, Beth. You evidently have a happy china/ceramic habit. I do too. I've almost never met a piece of porcelain I didn't like!

The closest Dillard's to me is in Stockton, which is almost an hour and a half from the San Francisco bay area. I, too, miss the wonderful old department stores that have long since closed, but I think beautiful, unique, quality merchandise is harder to find now. That's why preowned has become so popular. Even among the young people. My favorite places to shop are Chairish, 1st Dibs, and Etsy.

    1. I think Chairish and 1st Dibs are good for research, but not for buying. Their prices are extremely high, especially 1st Dibs, in my opinion. I can almost always find the same exact things on eBay and Etsy for a tiny fraction of the price.

  4. I adore Dillards and am fortunate to have two within say a 10-20 mile radius. It’s a great store for so many things! But I do so worry that their days are numbered. Sure hope I am wrong.
    Love your new plates. Stunning.

    1. Thankfully you are wrong - LOL. They are incredibly strong financially with a high profit margin & stock trading near record highs. A lot of this is they are huge in Texas and Florida which are growing markets. I have 2 near me as well if you consider 10 to 20 miles nearby.

    1. They are china, not melamine. And my friend was at the Port Charlotte store but the sale person said that was the last of them.
