My garden's Spring cleaning is done! My gardeners (a team of 8) arrived at 7:30 am yesterday and did a wonderful cleanup of all the beds and installed 120 bags of my favorite black mulch. This is the front of CCC and you can see on the left two of my vintage blue and white Chinese garden stools - they have been in my gardens for over 40 years including lots of snowstorms up North and hurricanes here in Florida.
These are my front yard Eugenia topiaries - they were the size of your hand when I had them put in three years ago - that is how fast things grow here! I was so sad to leave all my beautiful English boxwoods in Alexandria, but these are the perfect substitute. Just prune them by hand - they will sulk if you use power hedge trimmers on them.

Beautiful!! I love the whimsy of topiaries mixed with blue/white garden stools & planters. Your tiled entry is a statement and just lovely. You have accomplished a lot in your short time in Florida. I think you have found & created your happy place. Thanks for sharing. Cheers - Mary

ReplyDeleteYour Eugenias look wonderful - very healthy and happy. Your garden and home are beautiful, and so welcoming. It looks like you live in a lovely neighborhood, Beth. I inherited a lovely, very old house with a very old garden. Ninety one years old, to be exact. The wonderful thing is all of the old growth trees, but the yards, as have the house, have been neglected for quite some time, so it's taking a while to get everything looking beautiful again. The one thing I love about gardening is the experimentation. I don't feel guilty if something doesn't work out the way I had hoped it would. It's not murder, it's just crop rotation! It's a wonderful journey and learning experience.

ReplyDeleteso pretty! I have deer eating EVERYTHING so I will have my hydrangeas (what's left of them) yanked out and (hopefully!!) have shrubbery installed---or blacktop the whole thing!!! (I am in Western PA)
ReplyDeleteYour yard is beautiful. I think black mulch looks lovely but I have always been reluctant to use it because I don't know what they use to get it black.
ReplyDeleteMost bagged mulch today at least around here whether red, brown, or black is dyed. The black uses Carbon Black which is a dark black powder also used as a pigment in eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick. I love the color retention and it is also resistant to mold and fungus which I used to get with the shredded mulch.
