Above is Gump's new version of its Palace Stool in black lacquer with an aqua blue seat. It is available for $298.00 plus shipping. I love the Chinoiserie styling and colors, but I think the polyester fabric is a bit tacky. I would opt instead for the Cindy Crawford Collection for JCPenney Trellis Stool for $99.99. I bought one and love it-it is very well made. With a $5.00 can of black paint and a great silk or other high end remnant, you will have an even nicer and much cheaper Chinoiserie piece. But I do love the black and aqua color combination. A great idea to borrow and do your own better version.

That's a great idea! Love the stool! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat research! I agree, the "bones" of the second one are a little more ornate. Can't you see a snippet of Fortuny on it?
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to paint and recover my JCP version in a ruby green fabric.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your blog, I bought 2 stools, painted them black and recovered them in a black and white trellis. They are now at home at the end of my bed. Thanks for the tip!!
ReplyDeleteLove the stools! I went to JCPenny but they were sold out...would love to have put a fun fabric on the seat and paint it in high gloss black.
ReplyDeleteI only wish this stool came in a larger, ottoman-size! It'd be the perfect addition to my living room....
ReplyDeleteJust in from skiing and catching up on my Chinoiserie Chic! Missed it! I think I prefer the Penny version. Because it isn't trimmed in Boyd's Bears and gingham, I'm sure our local store has a load of them in stock -- maybe I can snatch up a few! xo kitty
ReplyDeleteYou've got to be kidding me! That beautiful little stool is from the Cindy Crawford collection for J.C. Penny?! It's absolutely fantastic! Wait... why does Cindy Crawford have a home collection for J.C. Penny?! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteDagny-I'd love to see what you would do with it!
ReplyDeleteTheresa-Great minds think alike-I have been looking for a piece of blue Fortuny for it!
ReplyDeleteSweet Pea-I love Ruby Green-fabulous idea!

ReplyDeleteKitty-Welcome back-hope you had fun. You could do the Chinoiserie stool in gingham-LOL!
ReplyDeleteScott-Believe it or not, her collection has several nice pieces in it. Who would have thought?
ReplyDeleteI am sold on this idea - 2 are coming in the mail!
ReplyDeleteJess-You'll love them!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I will be heading over to JCP.
ReplyDeleteKayce-Good luck!
