Chinoiserie Chic Fashion

Tuckernuck

I mentioned on my one year house anniversary post last week some upcoming changes on Chinoiserie Chic. Here is the first.

I love fashion as much as I do interior design. Whenever I post on my closet, I get comments asking for more info on my wardrobe. So since I post seven days a week, I have decided there is room to add some fashion, beauty, and entertaining posts. CC will still be primarily interior design, but we are mixing it up a bit. I hope it will be fun for you and for me. Let me know if you enjoy it and let me know any topics you would like to see covered.

My taste in fashion is contemporary but retro, understated but exuberant, elegant but whimsical. My fashion approach is this - a dress, earrings, sunglasses, and a great handbag. I love one piece dressing. Easy breezy lemon squeezy. Especially since moving to Florida, I like light, loose, breezy, comfortable dresses like caftans paired with dramatic statement earrings, chic dark sunglasses, and a straw handbag. I now gravitate towards color and prints. I still wear black, but paired with colorful accessories.

I like everything I wear to look unique and feminine, modern but with a sixties vibe. I like statement pieces. I do not own a single T-shirt nor a pair of jeans. I love off the shoulder dresses and blouses and stay away from collars. I dislike boring and generic clothes in the extreme. To quote the late great Kate Spade

Tuckernuck is definitely one of my go to sources. I love their classic feminine style and elegant but beachy tropical vibe. These are all current pieces. You can click on the captions to link for details or to purchase.

Yes, I did find a chinoiserie caftan.

Pink Clorinda Kaftan

Batik Breeze Jamie Dress (Shown Above)

Lilac Finley Flutter Dress

Rainbow Emerson Caftan

Heart Sunglasses (I have these and get stopped everywhere I go and they are a steal)

Navy Pom Luna Earrings

Raffia Lantern Earrings (I have these and they go with everything)

I hope you had fun!

  5. Moved to SW Florida a few years ago after working in Manhattan for over 35 years. One night when my daughter was visiting, she said "What have you done to my mother?" "Your wardrobe was black and neutrals and now you're wearing pink pants."

  9. Beth, so excited about the fashion aspect of your blog!!! I love seeing fashion, accessories, bags, etc. May I ask a question, please? Do you wear your caftans while running errands/going about your daily business out of your home? I love caftans and have quite a few. However, I find myself just wearing them at home. Not sure how to wear them out and about. I get so many compliments from my friends when they are over, but haven’t ventured beyond our patio. Am headed to the beach today for a week and am taking a number of mine for cover ups and to wear on the deck in the evening. Thanks so much!!

    1. Thank you, Terry, for asking about wearing them while out and about. I would love to adopt this look, but wanted to know that too. They look so sleek, yet also comfortable, and I already own the lace-up espadrilles and several nice pairs of sandals, so for me, the footwear angle is covered.

    2. Elsa, hopefully Beth will give us tips on how to wear caftans when out and about.I am at the beach and have a caftan on, but am just at the beach. Don’t know how to eat it to dinner.

    3. Caftans run the gamut from casual to dressy, and all can be dressed up or down. My dressy ones I wear for entertaining at home or for going out to dinner, generally with a dramatic pair of earrings and dressy slides or Jack Rogers sandals. I definitely wear my more casual ones around the house and for running errands. These tend to be the cotton or rayon in slightly shorter ankle length with flip flops or espadrilles. This type is also great for lounging. I will definitely do a post on caftans.

  11. Beth, when you mentioned you might or might not wear underwear under your caftans, I knew those caftans would have to be heavier weight than the sheer voiles I'm constantly seeing offered in caftans/coverups. I'm interested in slightly heavier weight fabrics that I can wear to the grocery store without underwear. I'm also in a FL beach town, so the sight of such breezy garments aren't unusual. Could you do a feature on heavier weight caftans that could go on errands around town w/ out the see-through effect? BTW, Happy Anniversary Escape From Dangerous Captivity!
