Seeing Stars

Mario Buatta - Architectural Digest

Exciting news (for me) - my tile guys were here yesterday and again today and tomorrow installing the tiles in the lanai and front entrance. And one of those spaces will have blue and white nautical stars. The kitchen above is from Mario Buatta's final project - quite beachy and nautical with its blue and white nautical star floor, haint blue ceiling (Benjamin Moore Breath of Fresh Air) and blue and white striped rattan stools - and the kitchen is in Manhattan!

I find it funny that a large percentage of beachy chinoiserie rooms I post are actually in New Jersey and New York - no wonder they all seem to be moving to Florida - tropical dreams.

I think the blue and white nautical star floor will play very nicely with my blue and white Chinese porcelain and give it a beach house vibe.

  1. I love this kitchen (except for that pot rack, not a fan of those in general)! And the floor tile is dreamy- can’t wait to see your lanai once the floor goes in and then again when you’ve styled it. It’s going to be gorgeous 😊

  4. Love everything but the pot rack. A fitting swan song for Mario. It’s classic, timeless but that floor is the finishing touch.

    1. I especially like the floor - not a fan of the pot rack either. And there are hardly any pots and pans on it - strange.

  5. The floor is gorgeous, and Mario is definitely one of my favorites. It is interesting why, in such a beautiful kitchen, they would choose that pot rack. I didn't really notice it until your readers commented.

  6. Hi Beth, As always, I enjoy your blog and all things chinoiserie! I don’t know if you follow other blogs, but I saw a dress on cindyhattersleydesign.com yesterday and immediately thought of you! Check it out, I think you’ll agree it’s you!
