Blue and White

Filipa de Abreu

Such a lovely blue and white room with lots of favorites and a tropical flair. I love the X benches, the palm!!!!, the oversized ginger jar, the pup, the sconces, books, and the Celerie Kemble wicker floor lamp. That floor lamp is wonderful, but at a thousand dollars, I'll wait for the HG version - LOL.

BTW, fish scale patterned ginger jars are timeless, but especially good if you are going for that beachy vibe. The only exception I would take is the skirted table. I absolutely adore a great skirted table, but the glass top, the length, and that trim and trim placement all make me nuts.

  1. I like this space as well. But I think the pale blue benches add little. A pop of orange or hot pink would be more striking.

    1. I actually love the soft green with blue and white.

  2. I have an aversion to putting a glass top on a skirted table. Here especially, where it doesn’t reflect much of anything and has no practical use. Seems unnecessary and sort of cheapens the look. Agree that the trim is sort of over-the-top. Was it added to somehow spread white around the room and key in with the over-the-top palm, which I love?

    1. I would never use a glass top on any skirted table - a pet peeve of mine.

  3. The palm needs a base between the trunk and floor. Looks like it is floating in mid air.

    1. So true now that you mention it.

    2. They wanted the palm flush - with the baseboard it would not be is my guess.

  4. A lot of stuff going on in a small space. Love the wall palm and the floor lamp--the rest needs major tweaking.
-Wall sconces look "off" as in belonging inn a bathroom.
-Would have preferred a console table given the tight passageway to the door.
-OR... keep the round table but replace the 2 stools and the ginormous ginger jar with a wicker bench.
STILL...an overall nice space, easy on the eyes.

  5. I love that color of blue, and the boiserie palm is fabulous, but I agree with the suggestions your readers mentioned. Not sure why they didn't take the palm all the way to the floor. The color of the X benches makes them look a little lost. The wall sconces do look off, and a console table would be a much better choice. That round table takes up way too much space. Obviously the glass is there to protect the table top, but it does nothing to enhance the look of things. So what does one do to protect the surface? The room is still pretty, and the oversized ginger jar is beautiful.

  6. I believe she lives in a rental which might explain things like the wall sconces and the collected look in a small space.

    1. Are you guessing this or read it? I'm not sure if this is Lisbon or California.

Maybe the photo is from a new home bc in the Elle Decor write up, the blue benches are in the living room.

    1. I posted about her dining room in Lisbon before, but I think she also has a place in California. Not sure where this room is. Thanks.
