Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren - Architectural Digest

I have posted many times before about seagrass matting and about banana leaf wallpaper - both faves of mine. Well this is a great new discovery - the flooring above is banana leaf matting. The room is stunning with its palms, rattan, straw hats, white slipcovers, canopy bed, mosquito netting, and even a blue and white garden stool. Such understated elegance. Speaking of mosquitoes, I have never seen a mosquito here. Very odd.

  1. I love this room. So cool, elegant, and refreshing. One of my all-time tropical favorites!

My hypothesis is you probably have not seen mosquitos due to good mosquito control measures.

    1. My gated community must spray and the city does as well.

  5. This is so pretty. There is so much beautiful design out there, but whenever I see a picture of a Ralph Lauren room, I always want to crawl into it and live there. I'm not sure why, but I guess that's not only a sign of good design, but good marketing and styling. Any of you designers want to weigh in on what makes his rooms seem so special?

    1. Does Caspari make fabrics? If not, they should.

    2. No, their niche is paper products.

    1. I live in a very well run gated community and they must spray. They even power wash all the streets and curbs all the time!

  8. A timely post for us. We're putting in new wood floors which are dark, but so is our 2nd hand four-poster (which looks like an old Tommy Bahama design; but maybe Ralph Lauren?). We need a contrasting area rug of some kind. My husband liked the banana leaf matting very much, and the room in general. We'll be doing some matting shopping. Thanks for a great post. RL is a favorite of mine.

  9. Beth-we have yet to see a mosquito in our gated community so I think you are correct. Perhaps both yours and ours have good pest control services. The Ralph Lauren room is beautiful and everything I would want in a hotel but, IMHO, it lacks the creativity and personality of a life well lived and is formulistic.

    1. Ah but the Laurens have five homes including this retreat in Jamaica where they get to infrequently, so it is like a hotel for them. Are the words formulistic and formulaic interchangeable? I think so. And as for mosquitoes, my realtor here says gated communities are little bubbles.

  10. Ralph Lauren is hands down my favorite brand. This room is so calm and elegant with just a hint of whimsy. I love the personality shown by the straw hats, hanging necklaces and earrings hanging on the lampshades. The room tells the story of its owner.

    1. I completely agree - I think this room has lots of personality.

  11. I love the matting but in this room I feel it adds too much of the same brown as the furniture-a blue and white striped rug would bring some energy.
I love everything, just not together

    1. The matting is my favorite - I think there is enough white to offset the brown and I love it.
