Global Chinoiserie

OutSourceSol

I love the vibe of this room with its gorgeous chinoiserie panels mixed with a wicker chaise, seagrass ottomans, ikat pillows, animal prints, and hide rug. This room is modern, eclectic, and global and even a bit beachy.

Can anyone explain the pink cords from the pendant lighting? Could that be to adjust the height??? I hope they are not electrical cords....

  1. Lovely and the pink adds the oomph. I believe that the cords raise and lower the pendants and wonder if they are intended to adjust the height.

  2. I can't deal with those pink cords, whatever their purpose. The homeowner needs to rethink them asap.

  3. It was the first thing that caught my eye, those pink cords. You would think they would service a system to lower them, but I do not see a pully system at the canopy level.
I do think the cord is the electrical wire....and the pendants are fixed...no up and down option there. Such a shame to have those rope hooks screwed on the gorgeous panels.

  4. Wow All I can say is they didn’t hire an electrician. Those cords are just wrong.I agree with Ron.

  5. Very odd that they did that. Love the wallpaper panels though.

  6. I love the mix in this room and agree that the pink cords are a miss. I’m guessing that the homeowner is a fan through since it looks intentional.

  7. The pink cords remind me of the fab blue bedroom Charlotte Moss did up a decade ago. Remember the sort of Turkish lantern secured by a cord?

  8. The cords should be to raise and lower the lamps, though they seem to be fairly well fixed at the ceiling. Most curious. And they are so ill-placed that it is awful. Plus all that long cord hanging down! It seems almost criminal to deface the gorgeous chinoiserie panels with them.

  9. No need for that pink cord since it looks like those lamps are hard-wired. Originally, that kind of lamp was a sort of suspended hurricane lamp. It worked on a pulley system, like most chandeliers did, so they could be cleaned and candles or oil could be replaced. It's an ancient design, and could be used indoors and out. The "lid" on these are for reflecting light and for snuffing out flame. The lamps above are lovely in themselves, but the cord is distracting. And so sad they punctured that beautiful wall-covering. Otherwise, a gorgeous room.

  11. I think the pink cords were intentional, re; Ikat pillows. Sometimes in old houses you work around problems and make them an interesting, quirky feature???

  12. To me, this room reads young/bohemian with the pink cords reading 'bold'. The chinoiserie panels (gorgeous!) add the traditional element. For someone in their 20s, perhaps?
