The Chinoiserie Entryway

Phillip Thomas - Flower Magazine

This dramatic foyer features Gracie Studios wallpaper, lacquered black ceiling and door, and stunning wood floors. The purple console table is an interesting choice. Purple is pretty much the only color I don't use in my home. I love lavender, but not a dark purple personally. But this pop of purple definitely works here with the green walls.

  1. I can't decide if I love or hate that purple console table in the foyer. I don't think the foyer would be nearly as good without it, yet it somehow jars my aesthetic sensibilities to see it placed there. LOL, it is compelling, I must say.

  2. I see this foyer as more bohemian chic than chinoiserie chic. Very eclectic and colorful! I think the purple console works very well here. It's unexpected both in its color and classic design.

    2. It can be both - the Gracie Studios is iconic chinoiserie wallpaper.

  3. Purple isn’t my favorite at all, but this orchid color is fabulous and unexpected!

  4. I love this foyer. I love the purple console but not in this situation. It draws your eye away from other fabulous elements and the last thing this room needs is a pop of color. This console table in gloss black would ground it. JMHO

    1. I like the purple here. The black is a more conservative choice for sure.
