Organizing the Garage

Apartment Therapy

This sounds like the perfect project for the new year - organizing my garage. I am fortunate that my sellers had the garage walls, ceiling and floor entirely repainted before putting it on the market. It even has a huge window and plantation shutters. Here is some great inspiration - I love the pails with mulch, topsoil and fertilizer - I am definitely borrowing this. Since most of us enter the house through the garage and not our front door, it makes sense to have it aesthetic. I especially need a nice home for all my gardening things. Any garage organizing ideas you have used that you love?

  1. Happy New Year! I love an organized garage, too. The best garage organizing effort we had done here in Naples was getting an overhead storage system. It is mounted to the ceiling of the garage and just above the track of the garage door itself, so you only see it when inside the garage itself. The rack is the width of our two-car garage and about 4 feet long. It's strong, easy to access and holds about 1,000 pounds. We love it because it has allowed us to get our boxes of occasionally-used items off of the floor and out of sight (think holiday decorations and Rubbermaid containers of Northern treasures we can't part with yet.) And the owner of the company himself came out promptly to install it the day after we called, which as you know, isn't always the case here! www.sossswfl.com

  3. Great idea. I highly recommend filling a bucket or large decorative pot with a mixture of sand and mineral oil and then sticking your smaller hand tools or even larger tools in the pot. The sand and oil combo does a fantastic job of cleaning the tools and of keeping the edges sharp. I think I got this tip years ago from a Martha Stewart magazine.

    1. Yes, it was Martha Stewart and I have done it for years. Thanks for the reminder.

  4. You might like this Dana Gibson tray. It's got kind of a Florida vibe: https://poshmark.com/listing/Croc-tray-by-Dana-Gibson-5fe1a52dbb5937cc045adb02
