Very Exciting Find

CCC

I found this stunning verdigris iron palm chandelier last week in Sarasota and my electricians hung it yesterday. I love it. It's hard to get a perspective on the size of it with the 12 foot ceilings, but it's huge - it measures 4 feet wide by about 4 feet high. It is vintage/antique and really exceptional. It is very heavy - the little ball on the bottom of the alabaster glass shade is solid lead for example. I have yet to find anything like it online. I'd love to know more about it. All that I know is that is came from an estate on Bay Shore Road that was being renovated, for you locals.

  5. Second photo: under the table with the turquoise beads, dog bone or dog log? (Made me laugh—love our doggies!)

    1. That's too funny. It's a Milk Bone - Margot hides them all over the house - I just checked and she has moved that one.

  9. I can't believe it, what a fantastic find - it's gorgeous! It doesn't look as large as you describe so it's hard to appreciate the scale of it, but it's just beautiful.

    1. No, I think you missed that my wallpaper hanger broke his leg and has been out of commission. He should be back to work next week. Fingers crossed.

  12. LOVE the chandelier!!! Does it show off palm frond shadows on the ceiling at night?
    Great find!

    1. It stayed in my car until the two electricians could bring it in. LOL.

  14. Crazy about that chandelier! There'd be so many possibilities for it, hell, I'd like 2 more just in case. I see three in a long loggia with columns lined and potted palms in blue and white chinoiserie planters.
That truly is my favorite piece of all you've shown us and that's a tough call because there are so many.

  15. Great find indeed!

I've been reading your blog for a few years, but have never commented. I own a vacation home in Sarasota as well as a few investment properties. I have found AMAZING things there at second hand shops, thrift stores, ReStore and Salvation Army. If you like Lilly Pulitzer, it is not hard to find nice stuff at Goodwill.

My two favorite finds were both from Sarasota Architectural Salvage. A pineapple style chandelier, and a gold pagoda chandelier. Each was around 50-70 bucks.

The greater Sarasota area is fantastic for second-hand designer items. The sad reason is that plenty of retirees with excellent quality furnishings go there to retire and eventually pass away. Often their children are not local, and don't have the energy or desire to assess their parents' personal affects beyond a few family treasures. As such, beautiful furniture and decor pieces end up getting donated to local shops. I purchased a $6000 Drexel Heritage dining set for $350 at the ReStore.

This is one of the chandeliers I bought at the Sarasota Architectural Salvage store:

Anyhow, a little long-winded, but I'm glad you are finding some treasures there on the Suncoast! After COVID has settled more, it would be great to meet you in person :)

    Cheers!

    1. Also, many people move down here with their belongings from their previous homes and discover they don't work here and unload them. Which are the best Goodwills? There are so many. Are you down here now? Are things ever going to be safe here with our hideous governor? Would love to connect.

    2. Best Goodwills: Venice at the Rialto, Sarasota, Honore and 17th Street. GW corporate campus in Bradenton is large and has a lot of stuff. Every so often I find something good at the one on 41 just south of University.

Salvation Army in Venice is AMAZING as well... not sure why.

Restore in Venice, Sarasota and Bradenton are great.

There is another place in Bradenton called Good Life Super Thrift where I've found some amazing stuff!

It's all hit or miss, of course.

    3. PS - not there now; will be headed back Dec 29 - Jan 9th. TX governor gives FL governor a run for his money, LOL ;)

    4. Thanks so much. I keep reading about all the anti-maskers in Goodwills, and around UTC and Bradenton, so I will test the waters with these. Correct about Texas, but still not as bad as DeSantis.

  16. Your light fixture is the stuff dreams are made of! Once again your luck is ASTOUNDING!! And I just had to peek at Connor's ;ink for the carved pineapple chandy: that knocked my socks off too! Beauties, both!!!
