Outdoor Christmas Decorating Florida Style

Disney World

It is garden week here at CCC. Home Depot just showed up with a palette of black mulch 5 minutes ago, so this week I will be cleaning out all the beds and mulching. Myself. I love being in the garden and the weather here is so nice now. Then everything will be ready for Christmas decorating outside right after Thanksgiving. Outdoor plants for the holidays in Florida is a brand new deal for me. The garden centers are filled with cyclamen and poinsettias for planting in the garden. So beautiful.

I'd love any ideas or advice on outdoor plants you southern/tropical gardeners have used for holiday decorating.

  1. Pink poinsettias would look great on your front porch. Or anywhere in your house.

    1. I agree - I am not the biggest fan of poinsettias, but I really like them in pink.

  2. Those beautiful poinsettias outside! So jealous. We have snow on the ground.
    Personally, I love white poinsettias.

  3. I adore that big pot of poinsettias and living in Australia, that is about the only Christmas planting that I can do! I am off to the nursery instantly to copy this!

  4. personally I use a lot of white flowers like petunia, impatience, geraniums mixed with a few reds like poinsettia, bougainvillea, and amaryllis. I don't use very much red in our planting since hubby is color blind to red/orange against green so just enough to keep the birds happy. after the holidays pass I go gaga over spring so I can keep all the whites as a base. I buy lots of pink and white amaryllis early, like now, at big box stores (the ones in cardboard boxes just sprouting) and stagger the plantings in clay pots (or red ones in blue chinoiserie) so I have a steady show all season and they make greet gifts. also anything chartreuse green including herbs & topiaries especially with hot pink. my florist friend taught me to lightly spray paint poinsettias w/gold, pink or white, lasts all season. Am allergic to pine so either faux greens or real ivy which can be hard to find. Have you seen this month's Flower mag? a beautiful pink, green, blue home in London. Pamela
