Black Friday Sales

Ralph Lauren

I am generally not really a fan of rooms with lots of black, but Ralph Lauren can do anything. And check out that plant - is it a banana tree or bird of paradise? They look so similar. I am planning on getting one for the garden.

But I picked a black room today because many of my favorite online stores have already started their Black Friday sales and I am going to indulge in a little Christmas shopping today. I never ever did Black Friday shopping in person in my entire life anyway. That would be my idea of hell. But with the pandemic, it would be a suicide mission.

So a heads up that many of your online stores have likely already started their sales if you have Christmas shopping to do. Have fun. Shopping from bed is much more fun anyway!

  1. That room is gorgeous! That floor, wow. I have a white bird of paradise in my yard and the leaves look a bit like this. It’s gorgeous and is such a statement. I love banana trees, too.

  2. I love this photo because it is proof that one can do glam without gold. (I know that you like gold, but I'm more of a silver girl.) When I redid my apartment, I wanted to use fat polished aluminum drapery hardware, but there was not enough room, so I used on inch square aluminum rods. I like them, but they can't compete with two or three inch ones like in this photo.

  3. RL rules. I love 95% of what he does and this room is no exception. I like using black accents in my decor but haven't quite graduated to black doors or shutters. Love the look but not right for where I am at the moment.

Black and white checkerboard floor with black plantation shutters and white walls is a perfect starting point for just about anything you want to do. Throw in some tall potted palms, a period piece type table and accessorize to your heart's content--vibrant colors, bamboo, baskets, blue and white chinoiserie, everything looks great in that kind of setting.

Dying to try it in my next abode.

    1. I love this too but better for a city apartment than Florida I think.

  4. Black and white always looks so glamorous and sophisticated. It's a stunning room, and I agree - Ralph's designs are truly amazing. They always raise the bar. His rooms always make me want to crawl into the picture and live there. I've always wondered who are the stylists for his photo shoots? I'm sure there have been many over the years, but they've always maintained the same standard of dazzling. The tops of the matching dining room chairs on the right side of the picture remind me of very fancy men's wing tip shoes with black toes. I wonder if that was his inspiration for their design? Thanks for the gorgeous pick, Beth. You just made my day!

(One year I made the mistake of going shopping on a Black Friday. I would never do it again. It was totally unproductive, and a very unpleasant experience.)

    1. No amount of savings would induce me to go out shopping on Black Friday. There's nothing I want that badly, in fact, I'd pay NOT to do it so I figure I am already saving.

    2. I think quite a few interior designers started with RL. I will be in my garden on Black Friday. All the online sales that I am interested in have already started.
