CCC

Paul Montgomery Canton Panels

A great day yesterday at CCC - Casa Chinoiserie Chic. I was thinking it might be fun to have a monogram with three Cs on my coral towels. Why not? A new life and a new monogram.

I have this lovely pair of Paul Montgomery silver and gold leaf Chinoiserie panels that I have never used that would be wonderful above the Williams Sonoma Home Mercer table in the dining area. That is, if the table ever arrives - they misplaced the 80" by 40" glass top during shipping. LOL. It is being re-shipped. I think they would be great mounted on boards as opposed to framed. Any experience with this out there? Please weigh in. Traditional frames seem sort of dull. Anyone local know a great framer?

I did more styling in the former dining room which from now on will be called the great room which is a nice large space that includes this area and what will be the living "room" and dining "room." I love how this is looking - very luxe.

More Progress

I love my blue and white pantry - I'm always moving things in and out of here as needed for other rooms.

The blue and white pantry

I loved all the suggestions for a new moniker for GG. I am still debating, there were so many great ideas. I will let you know when I decide and will start using it instead of GG.

I spent all day yesterday in my house and it was heaven instead of prison as staying in had been the last few months deciding between a pandemic outside and a monster inside. Now I am so happy and at peace. Bliss.

I have not taken baths since I was a young child, but decided to try out my garden tub yesterday and it was lovely.

I love the glass blocks visually and functionally. Very mid century modern and private, but still let in light. As you can see, I added a Nest candle and some sea sponges. Any other ideas for the perfect bath?

I found this gorgeous hand towel gifted to me several years back from Jennifer at The Pink Pagoda. I know I asked this a while back, but what has happened to her and her blog and her store? I miss them all.

Well guys, another day in paradise today. On tap are some nurseries for more ideas on the garden. It occurred to me that all of my furniture and decor looks far better in Florida than Virginia - very Palm Beach. It is all fitting together.

  1. Hello, I love those little palm trees! Did they come from Home Goods? I need to get over there and look for some treasures.

    1. No, they are from Williams Sonoma Home but are no longer available. They are my fave new purchase for my new home. Thanks.

  2. CCC is coming together so quickly and beautifully. Your dining area is so lovely. The stenciled palm leaves are so ethereal and elegant. I love your gold, luxe look. The Canton panels will be a nice focal point above your table.
How about an orchid for your bath surround?

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, the corner you can't see in the photo has an orchid in a blue and white cachepot.

  3. The Paul Montgomery panels are remarkable-absolutely love his work. Frames would distract from their beauty. Love the CCC concept. It will look fantastic as a monogram. The glimpse of the foliage beyond the great room which I believe is reflected by the mirror is just a taste of what I’m sure you will show us. It looks like a tropical paradise. Enjoy!

  5. In answer to whether or not to frame the panels, I vote to frame them in a thin, bamboo-look wooden frames. I am so used to see panels such as these framed that way. I don't think it detracts at all.
Love Venice, but might not be going to Florida this fall because of the pandemic. I will miss it. I have a condo there and love it as Venice offers so much.
Have been enjoying your fantastic vision and progress.
    Thank you for sharing.

  6. I like the "CCC" monogram, too. Our house number is 25 and I had the guest bath towels monogramed with XXV. I would frame with very narrow frame.

  7. The great room looks very glam...I halfway expect Jean Harlow poised by the mirror holding a cigarette with an ivory extender.

Now I know where to shop for blue and white porcelain when I visit Venice Beach: your pantry. What a treat to look at everything so organized and accessible all in one place!

I wouldn't frame the panels. (you can always do it later) They are so pretty on their own and above the W Sonoma console, which is sleek and modern w/stainless base (?) any frame might be at odds--at least in my mid's eye. Besides, you'll have a grouping on the table as well so there'll be a lot to take in.

I continue to love your floors and can only imagine how good they would feel on bare feet.

    1. Thank you - the floors are wonderful barefoot. I agree with the panels - the table base is nickel. I want a more modern look.

  8. Maybe a house plant and a small bamboo stool for the bathroom? To make it feel spa-like? Your home is such a serene haven, I feel relaxed just looking at the photos.

    1. Thank you - a serene haven is just what I want. And there is an orchid out of view.

  9. The Washington Post did a story on 7/22/20 on a Richmond, VA designer named Stevie McFadden who has pink Chinoiserie panels: "Inspired by her own divorce this designer has created a formula for a home that heals."

  10. re. panels: In general I would consider framing the panels in a thin bamboo frame like this but context of placement is an important consideration as well..

  11. I vote for mounting the Paul Montgomery panels, you’ve got so many other great accessories that I think the simple mounted panels would look wonderful. I have no clue how it’s done, but have a professional do it, they’ll be fabulous. So happy for you that your life is once again wonderful. You go girl!

    1. Thanks so much. I agree on the panels - a cleaner look. I will have it professionally done. I just want to make sure they know what they're doing.

  12. I see you have a pair of Foo Dogs (or lions) in your pantry. I have a celadon pair next to my garden tub and I love them there.

    1. Those foo dogs are some of my first blue and white Chinese porcelain. I have a celadon pair as well. Next to the tub is a great idea.

  13. The panels will be shimmery perfection with your "lost" table (probably code for having a wreck with a fork lift!) when it arrives. I vote for panels. Sounds like between your art hanging guy and handyman beautiful solutions can be reached. I was always a bath girl. Several years ago I redid my small bath and had to choose between easily accessible and larger shower or new tub. I chose the shower. Still miss it. Sniff. Sniff. I add some favorite music (opera, my choice) and a glass of wine! About the CCC monogram, have you thought about flipping the first and last "C"? I think Coco would approve!

    1. I agree on the panels. I am not a bath person at all, so may never go in it again - LOL. A swimming pool for the pups perhaps. The flipping just works with two, not three Cs. I'm still playing around with it.

  14. All of your ideas are lovely. I would add a tray across the tube to hold a glass of wine (or champagne!) and a book. You can find the Pink Pagoda on Instagram and it also has a link to her shop. I'm not sure if she still has her blog although you can still access her One Room Challenge posts.

    1. Thank you. Re: The Pink Pagoda, there have been no updates to anything in ages and her shop link takes you to blank space. Hence my question. The surround to the tub has plenty of space for a glass of wine.

  15. I love the idea of doing them as mounted panels. They have enough going on without adding a frame and the table is fairly sleek. Your happiness pours out of all your posts.I'm going through a bad divorce and it makes me happy to see what a good direction your life is headed in.

  16. Beautiful. I think I’d mount them and keep them sleek. As some others have said, you can always frame them later. I think mounted would amplify the purity of your table there.

  18. I’m late chiming in. Paul Montgomery website has examples of how panels should be framed. If they have value to you I would suggest not permanently mounting on board. The purpose of correctly framing is to preserve their value. Use acid free backing and mat. Also keep them away from sunlight. Even indirect sunlight will cause damage. North windows are okay.

    1. Thanks, but this is Florida and I love the light and don't want the look of a mat and frame. They will survive or they won't.

  19. As a teacher of French I think CCC should stand for Chateau Chinoiserie Chic as both chinoiserie and chic are words of French derivation. I love reading your inspiring words. Wishing you all the best for the future.

  20. Hi. Can you tell me about the small silvered table next to the white fur bench? I’m always looking for little tables like that to put next to my bridge table - great for holding a drink!

  21. Regarding the panel framing....centered in floating glass plates, back and front. Very small simple edges if needed. Good luck. They are beautiful. Nan
