McDonald's French Fries & More

Where Can I Hide These?

My puppies have not had their usual time with me this week, so on the way back yesterday I surprised them with a special treat - a small McDonald's French Fries. Margot is trying to figure out where to hide hers from Harper.

My Closet in Progress

Lots of progress on my new closet - lots more to do, but it's getting there.

My painters finished the guest bedroom, my study, and the vestibule yesterday, so today I'm gong to bring a few things over to my study, like the Mary McDonald red leather campaign chair and black lacquer table from HomeGoods. I can't wait to see how things look.

It's like Christmas morning every day at my new house. Really.

I also cannot get over my HomeGoods. Do any of you have one like mine? It's as if every Chinoiserie, Greek Key, designer, blue and white Chinese porcelain, Kate Spade, MaryMcDonald, Ralph Lauren piece gets sent here. UNBELIEVABLE. Did I mention all the Frette sheets this week? I might have to create a local HomeGoods chapter of Shoppers Anonymous.

I did find a local monogrammer with great reviews for those who asked - I hope to swing by this week and will report back. These are their standard monograms but they can create anything custom.

Monogram Examples

My painter removed all the lighting fixtures and has called a local couple to pick them up. They have a non profit and sell donated items and all proceeds go to the homeless in Sarasota County. I was in Lowe's yesterday and found this fixture. My daughter has been suggesting a raffia fixture and I could not resist this at $113.00. I am tweaking what goes where, but will find a spot. It's too cute.

At this price, I don't care that it's trendy - it's fun and beachy.

Have a great day my peeps.

  4. The HomeGoods store must be in Sarasota and not in Venice. Where in Sarasota is it?

  5. Well, you have been a very, very busy and productive girl! It already looks like your closet needs a closet! The photo of Margo is adorable. Watch out when you put on your shoes! That would be a perfect and stylish way to stash those fries!

  6. Hi Beth, love following along with you on your new adventure! I live in Sarasota too and I’m curious about which HomeGoods you’re scoring all these treasures at! Bee Ridge or UTC? Or Venice? Heard that’s a nice one but haven’t been

  7. My dear, you are a WHIRLWIND!!! I can tell you are way past READY to start anew and close the door, once and for all, on GG and all THAT entails. UGH! I am very proud of you and happy for you. Life is too short! Sweet pups, and light fixture to boot. I am crazy envious of that Home Goods....I have several close to me and they are very hit or miss. I am loving every minute here, following along. Good luck choosing your monogram. I have a love/hate relationship with such choices and always second guess myself until I hold towels, completed, in my hand. I know yours will be beautiful.

    1. Thank you so much my friend. I know what you mean about monogramming - my problem is that I usually don't like the choices. I prefer places that do custom. I am having a blast and feel empowered again.

    1. Many people have reported about the bare shelves at theirs. All here are stocked to the gills and restock constantly. Lucky me.

You have accomplished so much in such a short time, Beth!
Your Home Goods sounds like heaven. I would make regular visits.
The rattan fixture is so fun. I ordered one ship-to-store for local pickup. Have a great day!

  11. You have an extra special Home Goods. I was told by somebody with company that what they ship is dependent on zipcode and demographics. The nicer the area the higher-end the goods are, hence the Frette sheets. Like so many of your visitors, I am vicariously living through your new house and the pieces you're adding. It is such fun!

    1. Yes, about zipcode and demographics, but interestingly, Alexandria, Virginia where I moved from is very tony but the HG was not nearly as nice as here.

  12. Beth, Your blog is my first stop in the morning. I am really enjoying your daily updates. Regarding Homegoods, I went to the Homegoods in Winter Garden a few hours ago and scored a gorgeous turquoise pair of Aerin Lauder lamps. I was so excited!

  15. Hi Beth, I love to find affordable treasures too and have been doing it my entire life. As I've grown older, I've realized that there are many ways to land a great deal. You have great ideas and style so let me put this out there. Whenever I find an expensive item that is too pricey and I compare it to a similar item that is affordable, I realize that the pigments are clearly different, construction, quality, design and so on. I wonder if it's worth it to spend even a small amount of money on a product that may not be able to transcend over time. The best way for me to decorate like a designer on a shoe string budget is to look for the largest percentage of savings on an item. For instance, if a lamp retails for $1000 and is reduced to $300 and is the perfect piece versus a lamp retailing for $250 reduced to $99 that will fill the space and do the job but just isn't the same caliber, I ask myself which purchase is better? I would always rather have the more expensive item so I wait until the item is further reduced or I look for coupons that will help the price come down even more. Raffia, wicker, bamboo, rope and string fixtures are all the rage right now. A little Google search reveals some winners. Some retail with very reasonable pricing and others are on sale. What works for everyone is different. Check out IKEA bamboo lighting, and Amazon (Natural Twine Pendant, Hemp, Wooden, Woven, Rattan) with pricing below $100 and Serena & Lily sale lighting. The Frette sheets are a fabulous find at Homegoods because they are priced lower than the Frette Outlet online. If I am still unable to get the item I want at the price I need, this is a tip that works every once in a while. Go to the store manager and ask when the item will be further reduced, ask if the store offers any type of discounts and, if you make a purchase and find out there is a sale one or two weeks later, ask for the difference back.
