A Great Day

Progress in my closet

I had a truly amazing day yesterday and I realized that I am not in this alone.

My sweet daughter texted me and said, "Mom, are you o.k?'

A dear dear friend called and said she felt we needed to connect and she apologized for telling me GG was the one when we started dating. I assured here that I and I alone am to blame.

I am beyond grateful for the support from all of you. I have made new friends all over including Florida and even in Venice and in my own community! Many of you have reached out with your own stories of survival and perseverance for which I cannot thank you enough.

My painter hand gold leafed the huge mirror frame in the dining room and it is stunning!!!!!!!!! Then he hand stenciled in gold, feather palm fronds in the panels below to represent the preserves. Amazingly gorgeous. Pictures this week, I promise.

I was driving back from Venice on 75 to pick up more things and the skies opened up and it was the worst driving conditions of my life. You could not see your lane or other cars or anything. Blinding. It was too dangerous to pull over. I was scared. Really gut wrenching scared. I said out loud, "I am really scared, help me," and within seconds the skies cleared and the rain stopped and it was blue skies and sun ahead. I hope this is a message that God, or the gods, or the universe, or karma has my back. I hope this was meant to be a metaphor. I think so. I hope so.

My new closet is happy too.

Is this a happy closet or what?

I screwed up and didn't take pictures, but the tandoori orange in the guest bath is wonderful. The countertops go in on Tuesday.

Three more days and I can breathe again.

Thank you all for joining me on this journey.

  7. I know that stretch of South Florida road, I know that blinding rain, I know that same fear, in a powerless freefall with everyone else in automobiles. I like your idea that it's a metaphor, your attitude is triumphant, I agree that "you've got this," and now you know how many of us are out here pulling for you. All best to you, from North Florida!

    1. Thank you so much and you write beautifully. I love the "powerless free-fall" - so well put. I am sure I will adjust, but it was very very dramatic. I appreciate your support.

  8. That is a very happy closet! LOVE your raffia handbags. I have a weakness for almost all things raffia and wicker. Please tell me what the pink and white hot air balloon is. (A handbag, per chance?)

    1. Yes, the hot air balloon and the wicker frog are Kate Spade handbags. I have been collecting Kate Spade since her first collection.

  9. I'm not a religious person. I just didn't get that gene. However, I do believe in symbols, metaphors, and its less used cousin, similes to interpret our reality. Glad you are safe and I hope that your closet's wire shelves are screwed into studs! (LOL) That's a serious amount of happiness for one closet to contain! A friend's mother used to say, "You can stand on your head for a month if you have to" when trying to give her pep talks for dealing with difficult times. Now you have only three more days! Looking forward to seeing the Tandoori jewel box. What fun. And it sounds like your painter created a masterpiece with the mirror and panels.

    1. I was an English major at Bryn Mawr, love the lesser cousin, the simile. Everything is coming together.

Your wardrobe is amazing but your closet could Be so much more! Once you are settled Check out IKEA closet systems. They have fabulous things you could incorporate that are not over the top expensive. If you have some one handy to install you can create a dream closet on a budget.
