The Guest Bath and Update

Amy Berry

I made progress this week on my new home on so many fronts. I posted yesterday on plans for the guest bathroom. I stopped by Benjamin Moore for orange paint samples yesterday. There are many that look great with my wallpaper. I will order several samples from Samplize to bring over to the new house to try.

The vanity will be lacquered in orange like the wainscoting. I will change out the counter and sink. I love the looks of this counter above. Does this look dark green or black and does it look like marble or granite? The combination with the orange wallpaper is killer. I want this. I Also love the rectangular sink. I have two beautiful gold mirrors from my previous home that I will try out and see if they might work. I would love to find spots for one or both. The wallpaper pictured here is Coral Monkey Business by Bob Collins and Sons. OMG - is the toilet seat lid actually up in a photo shoot????

Here is another shot - I love the art.

Gray Malin - Mykonos Blue and Orange Umbrellas

Well, I am going on all cylinders here. This week I -

1. Ordered a chandelier for the breakfast room
2. Received the Dana Gibson fixture for the foyer
3. Hired the movers
4. Decided on home insurance
5. Chose the canvas palm tree with all your help
6. Received the gray Samplize paint samples and made a likely choice
7. Chose a sofa for the great room
8. Chose a sofa for the study
9. Decided on lighting for my un dining room
10. Found a couple great items at HomeGoods
11. Figured out how to have a television in the master bedroom and hide it
12. Hunted down two out of stock items from Williams Sonoma that I will pick up today
13. Ordered a really fun rattan piece from Urban Outfitters

I will post on some of these coming up. Let me know if you are interested in seeing any of these and would love your thoughts on the vanity counter above. I hope you all know how much I appreciate and am enjoying all of your comments. It is making this journey more fun and more successful. Thank you.

  3. Sink top looks like green marble to me. Either green or black would look good although I'd go for black. Certainly love the choice of a square sink, prefer it over vessel which I privately call "above ground" sink and generally don't care for it much.

Man, oh man, you've done quite a lot this past week probably fueled by good adrenaline about all the wonderful prospects to look forward to. It's just about my favorite thing to do--make a new place into my own starting from scratch.

Can't wait to see the next chapter!

    1. Yes, I love the sink shape. I should have added to the list informing Golf Guy I had bought a home but figured it was TMI. LOL

    2. I love the sink shape and also prefer a non-vessel sink. They always look great, but often look better than they function.

    3. Interesting. I put in two vessel sinks in the master bath here and think they are the best ever. I will have to post on what I chose. They are gorgeous and functional.

  4. Yes, I would so enjoy seeing all your choices. I found this online so I think it is black marble.

  6. I think it’s black marble. Also, Samsung makes a fabulous “Frame” tv that is beautiful on the wall! Looking forward to seeing all your plans and selections...

  7. Well, you have been a busy girl! I once read something like "a middle-aged pissed off women has enough energy to light up a village!" You are making enough energy you could sell it back to the grid! Good for you for taking charge of your happiness. I'm glad you are considering a darker sink countertop (I think it's marble not granite. It could be soapstone?) I know you want to keep it light in Casa CC, but dark contrasts are sometimes a welcomed relief. In my bath remodel, I used a Toto rectangular vessel and chose a bar faucet instead of the single arm faucet. It seemed more substantial. I love it! Only 1 hole to clean around! In my powder room I chose the Rohl wall bridge faucet with crystal handles. It is rather smashing set on the mirrored wall. I had the small room "tiled" in 12" x 18" mirrors set running bond! I have definity over improved my house, but we have decided to live it out here...and giving the rapidly refreighting pace of Covid that may come sooner rather than later, hey? Keep up the dizzying pace of making progress: nature's oxycontin!

    1. I agree - I love black and think it is necessary to counterbalance the pastels I love. It would be great with my wallpaper. Florida is a hot mess as you know. I will be happy to keep myself occupied with my beautiful new home. It is scary out there.

  8. That looks like the same black granite my sister used in her kitchen. It is beautiful. Have you been to the Home Goods on Bee Ridge in Sarasota? And also the Good Will down by the Ringling Museum is fantastic. I got a brand new, tags still on handbag that retailed for $1000 and paid $3.00! It’s hit or miss but worth the trip for beautiful furniture and decorative accessories.

    1. I like black granite. We used Galaxy on a kitchen I did for a client and it was gorgeous. I go to HomeGoods on Bee Ridge once a week. It is fabulous. The highlight of my week. LOL

Thanks for the tip on the Goodwill. I will start stalking it for sure!

    2. I asked sis and hers was Black Forest granite. Looks like some slabs are more heavily veined than others on Google. I had to leave a pair of twin mahogany four poster beds at that Goodwill bc there was no way to drive them back to S.C. $75.00 for the pair! I almost cried!! Then we moved my MIL up here two months later...I could have stored them in her condo and added them to the moving van,

    3. Thank you for checking. I just Googled it and it is stunning. Wow. And I can't wait to check out the Goodwill.

    4. Roxanne - Could I bother you for the street of the Goodwill? There are three near the Ringling. Thank you!

  9. Please post everything on the list. Your ideas are always so stylish, and you are most generous in sharing sources. Thank you. I read your posts daily, and yet somehow I missed the discussion about the dissolution of your relationship with Mr. Golf Guy, so I take it you will be in the new house without him. I am sorry for the challenges you have had.

  10. The counter top looks black to me. I can't tell from the photo if it's marble or granite. I would love to see how you will hide the TV in the master bedroom, and PLEASE tell me how you were able to find an out of stock item. (Just an aside - I love the look of the pink flower against the coral wallpaper, but any combination of corals and pinks just sets my heart on fire!) I can't wait to see how things progress.

  11. I am having so much fun as you style your new house! Please don't stop posting about it! I think the sink has a black marble surround and black is an excellent choice to offset the orange. I like the rectangular inset sink ever so much more than a vessel sink.

    1. I agree completely and the black will be fab with the wallpaper. I like the guest bath the least of any room in my house and this might turn it into something great.
