More Pineapple Pumpkins

Studio DIY

Another great Halloween idea - spray paint a pumpkin yellow and add leaves out of green card stock. Lots faster than carving and adorable.

More Chinoiserie Halloween Ideas

Blue pumpkins

Not a fan of orange pumpkins? Me neither. New to the market, these Australian Blue or Jarrahdale pumpkins are a cross between a Blue Hubbard squash and a Cinderella pumpkin. Wouldn't these be beautiful outside with blue and white Chinese garden stools and blue and white Chinese planters?

A Chinoiserie Halloween

Eleven Gables

Halloween is a favorite holiday of mine. I thought it would be fun this week to look at some ideas for combining Halloween and Chinoiserie. This is a great one - white pumpkins with blue and white planters and white mums.

Scale

Carloyne Roehm
I really believe that a sense of scale is what is most important to an interior designer's aesthetic. Here Carloyne Roehm has put an oversized Chinese vase in front of a fireplace. The scale is perfect - the piece is dramatic but in balance with the rest of the space.

Styling the Bar Cart

This is the bar cart in my husband's man cave. I think it's masculine but with some fun and whimsical touches like the vintage pair of giraffes and the silver rhino.

Styling the Chinoiserie Bar - The Ginger Jar

Mark D. Sikes

A very elegant example of how to style the Chinoiserie bar using a blue and white ginger jar and a potted white orchid.  I love how the bottle of Bombay Sapphire Gin picks up the blue - I AWAYS have a bottle on my bar.

More Styling the Chinoiserie Bar

Jamie Meares - I Suwanee

If you have a bar nook, why not wallpaper it as Jamie did here in her home with a great paper like Scalamandre Zebras wallpaper? A small amount of Chinoiserie wallpaper would do the trick with major impact. The pair of pagoda lamps and collection of small blue and white ginger jars add of course to the Chinoiserie styling.

Here is another great example with a kitchen bar nook wallpapered in banana leaf wallpaper.

New Series - Styling the Chinoiserie Bar

I feel like having some fun the next few days with my top tips for styling your bar with Chinoiserie Chic style. As you know, bars and bar carts are all the rage, I have two, and I love styling and restyling them.

We start with a great pick - Monkey Shoulder. I am not generally a fan of blended scotch, preferring single malts, but this is a blend of three famous single malts. It is wonderful neat, on ice, or in cocktails - it makes a killer scotch and lime. And it very well priced.

Moreover, the bottle is gorgeous with its trio of brass monkeys perched on the shoulder. So cute. And Chinoiserie as well as monkeys are such a favorite subject to depict. Here it is below on a bar. Note that all the bottles are empty or near empty. Either they are for display or this blogger likes her cocktails.

One

Mark D. Sikes

One statement piece of Chinoiserie can transform a room, adding drama and interest. The scale of this blue and white Chinese fish bowl with palm is perfect.  I love to add lots of moss to the top as here adding textural interest.

Styling the Bar Cart with Chinoiserie

Hunted Interior

This lovely bar cart demonstrates beautifully two hot trends in bar cart styling - art and a lamp. The ginger jar art is from Mitchell Black. I especially like the modern approach to framing in acrylic with stainless standoffs. The turquoise lamp is by Times Two Design.

A piece of art raises the eye visually as well as adding personality and interest. This blue ginger jar is a great way to add Chinoiserie. A lamp adds height and functionality.

Sunday Inspiration

Carolyne Roehm

If there is a color palette I love more than this, I can't imagine what it would be. I am always drawn to black, gold, every shade of pink, and of course, the hues in blue and white Chinese porcelain. I love mixing metals, here a gilded mirror, silver vases, and brass sconces. The roses are lovely - I am a fan of David Austin's English roses and have many in my garden. A beautiful green on the walls - my living room walls are a Farrow and Ball color called Bone that has a lot of green in it, but lighter and grayer than this. My kitchen walls are a soft celadon green. I find green walls to be a great backdrop.

Saturday Inspiration

Mackay Boynton

A wall of antique Chinese porcelain birds atop vintage gilded wall brackets are a wonderful focal point in this eclectic dining room. The chairs were recycled from a local country club. A round table is topped with a fringed navy table skirt. The walls are painted in blue - gray. Inexpensive matchstick blinds are topped with valances from antique suzanis.

Bar Cart Styling

Michelle Shen - AM Dolce Vita
I LOVE bar carts and I am always playing around with restyling both of mine. This darling bar cart above has two pieces that are favorites of mine - a gold pineapple and the gorgeous black Hendricks gin bottle. HomeGoods had had lots of gold pineapples lately. This one looks like a vintage brass one - these have become very collectible.

Blue and White

Antonino Buzzetta
A stunning dining room in the NYC apartment of Shameless actress Emmy Rossum. The walls are Farrow & Ball Ammonite. The table is Baker and the Bernhardt chairs are upholstered in Cowtan & Tout. The photographs are by Irving Penn. A blue and white Chinese vase graces the table and a large blue and white Chinese planter from Horchow is a focal point. A lovely example of a dining room that is classic and traditional but fresh and modern.

Chic Mixing

House and Garden UK

With the exception of an all blue and white room, I tend to favor rooms that mix pattern and color and look as though they were done over time. This vignette is a lovely example. The color palette is blue, black, white, yellow, orange, green, gold, and red. A geometric black and white floor partners with a floral wallpaper.

Chinoiserie elements include the beautiful green Chinoiserie wallpaper, a pair of Chinese vases, and more Chinoiserie wallpaper panels on the table - perhaps the workspace of an interior designer?

I really like the navy roman shades. I am lately quite drawn to dark window treatments - the 2016 DC Design House has black curtains in the living room pictured below. I went to the showhouse on Press Day and really enjoyed it - I recommend it if you are local.

Scale

Ralph Lauren

A lovely Ralph Lauren room with a plush red velvet club chair, ebonized cabinet, and touches of brass. The blue and white Chinese garden stool is a perfect choice, but my favorite piece is the oversized blue and white ginger jar.

Chinoiserie abounds in this stylish vignette with a vintage rattan table, banana leaf wallpaper, Chinese calligraphy brush, and potted orchid. Framed photos, a stack of magazines, and a candle fill in this chic little spot.

Warren Platner & Chinoiserie

Richmond Symphony Designer House
I am hoping to buzz down to Richmond this weekend before the Richmond Symphony Designer House closes on Monday and especially want to see this library. I am a huge fan of mid century modern and love Warren Platner chairs and tables. This is a pair of Platner chairs.

Platner combines surprising well with Chinoiserie.

Singerie

The Pink Clutch

I am a devotee of monkeys/singerie and just scored a much larger pair just like this blue and white monkey at Goodwill for $11.00. They are sitting under my coffee table right now and they look like they are holding it up. Below is another example - love him with the orange foo dogs.

Orange Chinoiserie

Honey Collins Interiors

I admit that I was not aways the hugest fan of orange in interior design, but I have grown to love it. This is a perfect example of how to use orange to add a fun and modern vibe to a room that still stays elegant and classic. A pair of orange lamps, a traditional bergere chair upholstered in a dramatic orange Chinoiserie Quadrille fabric, and a pair of cane and bamboo chairs lacquered in orange are all wonderful.
