A Chinoiserie Vignette

Ruthie Sommers

This vignette by Ruthie Sommers uses so many of my favorite combinations with Chinoiserie-

Stripes
A palette of pink, blue, white, and green
A spool chair
A sisal rug
A pair of blanc de Chine lamps - love the pink lamp shades!
Brass - is back

Aubergine

Celerie Kemble - Veranda
I love aubergine rooms. My office was aubergine until I decided to change it for a One Room Challenge and lightened the deep purple to a pale lavender.

The collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain in this Celerie Kemble room really pops against the deep walls and floor. The console and mirror are antiques. The lamps are of course Christopher Spitzmiller. The sconces are Ralph Lauren Home. The pendants are Vaughan. The fabric on the chairs is Holland & Sherry.

More aubergine and Chinoiserie inspiration.

Blue and White Perfected

Bunny Williams

One of my favorite blue and white living rooms by the incomparable Bunny Williams in her home in Punta Cana. The room is layered yet not cluttered. Her use of scale is wonderful, especially the blue and white ginger jar on the library table with the foliage - a very dramatic focal point. Lots of blue and white Chinese porcelain. I love the uncovered windows bringing the outdoors in. The striped rug lends a casual note.

Off to Press Day at the DC Design House today and looking forward to it.

Patience - The Kate Spade Cloverdale Rose Bowl at Last!

Michelle Adams
After being featured in Lonny several years ago in the bedroom of Lonny's founder Michelle Adams, this Kate Spade Cloverdale rose bowl (at that point already retired by Kate Spade) became a much sought after item, to say the least. Bloggers were posting their DIY versions all over the internet. I was determined to snag the original.

These are the two versions it came in

One day I was browsing my HomeGoods and spotted the cylindrical version. It is now happily ensconced in my office.

Still determined to find the rose bowl version,  I checked eBay every once in a while. The other morning I found it, and happily it was on Make An Offer, which I immediately did and won it.

In mint condition, and at a great price too. It arrived yesterday and I'm still thinking about where it will go in my house. It is absolutely gorgeous!

The Chinoiserie Entryway

Mark D. Sikes
An incredible entryway with framed Chinoiserie panels and a sky blue skirted table with an orchid in a blue and white Chinese porcelain planter. An odd sculptural piece hiding behind the table.

Scale

Mary McDonald - Veranda

One of my favorite things about Mary McDonald's style is her sense of scale. In this beautiful dining room,  traditional furniture, rug, chandelier, and art are made much more modern and dynamic by the use of very oversized ginger jars on the skirted table, massive blue and white Chinese porcelain lamps and blue and white Chinese planter on the sideboard,  and a huge potted palm.

Cole & Son Palm Leaves

Dramatic and sophisticated vignette featuring Cole & Son Palm Leaves in Gold on Black. A mid century modern Platner chair and Chinoiserie lamp are perfect choices.

Scallops and Chinoiserie

Sarah Bartholomew

A lovely vignette with a pair of blue and white scalloped slipper chairs, antique Chinoiserie cabinet, and a collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain. I love the combination of scallops and Chinoiserie.

The Chinoiserie Living Room

Kemble Interiors - House Beautiful
A lovely living room vignette by Celerie Kemble and Caroline Irvin. The walls look white in the photo but are actually covered in Phillip Jeffries Japanese Silky Strings wallcovering. A Gracie Chinoiserie panel is a wonderful focal point. The bar cart is by Celerie Kemble for Maitland - Smith. The Hiver metal chair is by Casamidy and is cushioned in green velvet - Holland & Sherry's Diva. The lamp is by Christopher Spitzmiller. The Celestina coffee table is from Kemble Interiors. The bold Greek key rug is by Kyle Bunting, actually not my favorite element in the room. I prefer rugs to be more subtle, and would prefer a sisal here I think.

I love that the bar cart combines faux bamboo, brass, and leather  - so sophisticated and a subtle Chinoiserie touch.

Celerie Kemble for Maitland - Smith

The Hiver chair by Casamidy is a metal faux bois version of a Louis XIV wing chair. Faux bois combines so well with Chinoiserie.

Vintage Wicker Elephants

Rebecca De Ravenel - Domino
I love this vintage wicker elephant table in the home of Rebecca De Ravenel. Its generous size makes it very functional. I too have a vintage wicker elephant table I found on eBay.

The Blue and White Chinoiserie Foyer

Sarah Bartholomew
This foyer combines blue and white wallpaper with a wonderful collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain including Chinese garden stools, ginger jars, lamp, vases, and planter with things that work so beautifully with Chinoiserie like leopard and seashells. The wallpaper is Pierre Frey Toile de Nantes, a classic.
