Celebration Week - New Inspiration Boards and a Mary McDonald Dollhouse

My four year blogiversary is this coming Saturday. This week I will be creating a new fantasy inspiration board each day, with the announcement of my giveaway on Friday.

Today I have created a really chic and glamorous unisex nursery. The wallpaper is Scalamandre Zebras in a beautiful purple, great for either a boy or a girl. The crib is the first ever entirely acrylic crib available at The Well Appointed House as is the Dorothy Draper style changing table and dresser. The dragon lamp is Jonathan Adler. The chandelier is by Marjorie Skouras. The Crate and Barrel Tess chair is in a deep purple called grape. A large abstract by artist Kerry Steele is the perfect finishing touch. I love the idea of original art in the nursery. This room can easily become a guest bedroom or an office down the road it is so ultra sophisticated.

If you missed yesterday's post, below is my fantasy dining room and my virtual makeover of the backyard at the Chinese Village House.

Have you seen that twenty interior designers including Mary McDonald decorated dollhouses for a charitable event? Here are her three rooms via A Lovely Being. You can see all the dollhouses here.

For those of you new to Chinoiserie Chic who missed my Chinoiserie Chic I'm a Giant Challenge Dollhouse and my Dragon Dollhouse, here are the links to my reveals - click on the captions for the links. I created two Chinoiserie dollhouses and twelve rooms all filled with Chinoiserie!

Celebration Week - Inspiration Boards and a Fabulous Giveaway

This coming Saturday, May 4, 2013 is my four year blog anniversary - with well over 2,000 posts. I plan to celebrate with a whole week of inspiration boards for each room of my fantasy Chinoiserie Chic house and the announcement of my blogiversary giveaway on Friday that you will not want to miss.

The Chinoiserie wallpaper is by Griffin & Wong "Song Sassoon" in a beautiful blue. The large circular table is silver leaf by James Mont circa 1940s. Six Frances Elkins loop chairs will surround the table. They are lacquered in white with gray leather seats. The faux malachite painted console table has gilded edges. For some fun, the console table will have a pair of Jonathan Adler Georgia breast lamps -  check it out here. A Marjorie Skouras chandelier is a wonderful focal point. A pair of antique Famille Rose Chinese garden stools will be tucked next to the dining table. My go to curtains, interlined silk taffeta, here in my favorite coral pink, will hang at the windows.

Now pop over to The Glam Pad to see my virtual makeover of the backyard of the Chinese Village House for inspiration on bringing Chinoiserie outdoors.

Organizing Your Jewelry With Chinoiserie Style

Chinoiserie Chic
Lindsay from The Pursuit of Style posted yesterday about organizing and displaying her jewelry in vintage dishes including Chinoiserie ones. Martha Stewart also shows how to use Chinoiserie plates and bowls as jewelry organizers. I like to display my collection of animal motif bangles and other jewelry on this skirted table with other Chinoiserie pieces. They are too pretty to store away!

Trending - Malachite and Chinoiserie and an Inspiration Board

Malachite is popping up everywhere, from beautiful antiques to wallpaper, faux painted walls, DIY furniture and boxes, and in fabric on pillows, chair seats, and upholstery. The mineral malachite has been mined for over 3,000 years and is highly prized as an ornamental stone and as a gemstone. I think its exotic elegance allows it to combine especially well with Chinoiserie. Here are some stunning examples. I have also created a Pinterest board for even more inspiration here.

Trending - The Skirted Table & Chinoiserie

Suellen Gregory
Skirted tables had fallen out of decorating favor in recent years, the victim of one too many ruffled floral chintz tableskirts in the 90s. Well, skirted tables are back and beautiful and modern and styled with lots of Chinoiserie. Here are some tips and a Pinterest board devoted to the subject of the modern skirted table.

*For your fabric, choose a solid, a Chinoiserie toile or something classic like a stripe or suzani
*Box pleats are very hot
*They are great for extra storage - some tables even have hidden shelves
*Keep trims sophisticated - Greek key, banding, bullion, no ruffles or overlays
*A large round skirted table is a fabulous choice for a large entryway, a slim rectangular console is perfect for a smaller or narrow foyer
*Style it with Chinoiserie - blue and white Chinese porcelain, ginger jars, a beautiful orchid, a statement lamp, beautiful coffee table books
*Go big - none of those dinky little round tables next to the bed or sofa
