Happy New Year

Happy Chinese New Year - The Year of the Snake. Before you go running off in squeamish horror, look at these beautiful examples of snakes in fashion and decor. Please visit my Pinterest board with over 150 stunning snake pieces - it may well change your mind about snakes. Snakes are not symbols of evil in many cultures and are worshipped in many religions.

I have always thought of snakes as quite beautiful and played with garter snakes as a child. I was born in the Year of the Snake. People born under this sign are thought to possess great wisdom, knowledge, intelligence, and are very perceptive. They are determined, appear calm on the outside, but are very intense and passionate. On the negative, those born under the snake don't trust others, only themselves, speak their mind perhaps too much, are headstrong, overdo things, and are fickle in relationships.

  1. Can't agree with you on that one! Although I appreciate the occasional garden snake at our summer place, snakes in general give me the creeps - even when they are diamond-crusted. Obviously they are liked by some in their decor, but not for me.

  2. Beth, you are so brave. While I love edgy & adore a little tension in my decor still can not brave these waters. Good job on your choices. Happy New Year to you too!

  3. This is interesting. How do you find out what "year/sign" you were born under?

  4. I think we might have been born in the same year, as I'm a snake, too! Oddly, the Chinese astrological description fits me 100% better than the "traditional" astrology sun sign. Maybe I need to incorporate snakes into my decor--but only decorative ones, not real, as anything other than garters scare the living daylights out of me.

  7. Such beautiful jewelry. I love the snakes and would definitely incorporate them in my decor if I was of the sign. I'm born in the year of the goat and am so surprised how completely accurate it is even down to my love of purple and pink.
