Chinoiserie Taxidermy

Peacocks are iconically Chinoiserie, but this takes things to a new level. From the May/June issue of Lonny, this mantel has a real stuffed peacock. Quite dramatic, but I think it would freak me out. I passed on a beautiful one at a recent flea market for this reason. Any thoughts on this?

  2. I am still recovering from Hitchcock's Birds...this would really creep me out. Plus there's the issue of mites...yuck! However, the form and colors ARE beautiful.

  3. Love peacocks, but the real (dead) deal is a bit freaky for me. Plus, it reminds me of all the trophy hunters here in TX....

  4. Decorative birds are lovely. Dead birds, however beautiful, are not so appealing. Ick.

  5. Peacocks are literally one of my absolute favorites elements in design however I would not be able to have this perched on my mantle without jumping 5 feet in the air everytime I pass it.....forget at night I would probably need a valium just to walk to the kitchen to get a glass of water...no thanks. Pretty in a picture, but not to live with.

  6. I have to say I love the look. But the actuality of it is the same as a mounted bear head. Creepy.

  7. Dita von Teese has them in her living room and swans too I think. But I think they would freak me out. I also see taxidermy at Ralph Lauren home showrooms from time to time.
