Top Ten Chinoiserie Wallpapers #8 and Fabrics #7

Clarence House Flowering Quince, whether used as wallpaper or fabric, has become a classic very quickly. It was made iconic when the Costello bedroom shown just below the colorways was featured in Domino Magazine. Created by the brilliant artist and fabric designer Kazumi Yoshida, it is based on an antique kimono, but done in a freehand modern version to give it a funky fifties feel. Use the wallpaper in an entry, powder room, walk-in closet, breakfast room, bedroom, or framed as panels. The 100% linen fabric is wonderful for window treatments, a chair, or pillows. It comes in all these colorways, although everyone seems to gravitate towards the first.

  3. Vickie-you are so right! The chair is spectacular. So is the blog. I have become addicted since discovering it several days ago. Beth-any thoughts on how to combine chinoiserie wallcovering with an eclectic art collection?
Thanks for being such an invaluable resource and making me realize that I am a chinoserie girl at heart!

  5. Judge Ruthie-Thanks so much. As for combining art and Chinoiserie wallcovering, I think one of the advantages of a Chinoiserie patterned paper is that it does not require art and stands on its own except for a great mirror perhaps. I would use the artwork on painted walls-celadon, Chinese blue, Imperial yellow, or Chinese red are all Chinoiserie colors and great with art. I also love grasscloth with an art collection. Use the Chinoiserie patterned wallpaper where it can speak for itself.

  6. The fabric on the chair is actually by Braemore. It's called "Flowering Branch" and is a less expensive option (about $20/yd).
