Chinoiserie Wallpaper Series-Fromental

Founded in 2005, Fromental has catapulted to the top of the design world, taking its place among the most beautiful wallpaper in the world. It is owned by the former creative director of de Gournay and his wife. I find their take on hand painted silk Chinoiserie wallcovering to be fresh and modern, yet elegant and classic, making it a perfect choice in any style home. But what impresses me most is that this design duo is seeking to expand their reach far beyond the more traditional look of de Gournay and Gracie. They have taken historical motifs and updated them with brightness and wit, blending British classicism with London's fashion scene. The expansive colorways and unusual patterns like the lotus and carp and monkeys give it a boldness and an edge that make it especially attractive to the younger, hipper, urban dweller and to those with a love for art deco, mid century modern, and contemporary design. As a collector of singerie, I am especially smitten by the monkey patterns, which would be amazing for a gentleman's bedroom, bath, study, or dressing room. Imagine it in a boy's bedroom! The more traditional dining room above by Alessandra Branca and the contemporary living room below demonstrate the immense versatility of this line. I am excited to visit the George Smith showroom, their New York representative, to see the collection the next time I am in New York City.
