Charlotte Moss, Chinoiserie & Christmas

I can't wait to receive my December issue of Elle Decor to see the article on the new Aspen home of Charlotte Moss. Her book Winter House is a favorite of mine. Is there a valid reason why magazines are always on the newsstands days before subscribers receive them? Given the demise of shelter magazines with the announcement yesterday of Metropolitan Home, maybe we should all have subscriptions to Elle Decor and House Beautiful, and also buy second copies at the newsstand just to help out their numbers. Look at the gorgeous photo above-I'm sure this piece will include three of my favorite things-Charlotte Moss, Chinoiserie, and elegant ideas on decorating your home for the winter/holidays/Christmas. I am literally chomping at the bit to start my posts on Chinoiserie Christmas decorating and gift ideas. Well, do your duty and subscribe to and/or buy at the newsstand this and every issue of Elle Decor and House Beautiful. While I am saddened intellectually by the closing of Metropolitan Home, I can live without it. Elle Decor and House Beautiful I can't.

  2. I have joined the support group for these two magazines. It will be a sad day, indeed, if we fail. And let me wish you a most early, but most beautiful, Chinoiserie Christmas. Having that excitement of bit chomping keeps us young!

  3. Holy cow, I can't believe ANOTHER one bites the dust. Wasn't so much a fan of Met Home, but still. The shelter mag section of the book store is becoming scant, indeed. I was devastated when House & Garden went under, I would WEEP if World of Interiors folded. I only read HB and Elle Decor occasionally, but you're right, we should probably all be subscribing!!

PS I ADORE the new layout of your site. This pink color is making me happy just looking at it!!!

  4. I agree that of the big 3, Met Home was my least favorite. Occassionally they had an article or feature that I adored, but generally it was just too modern/stark for my tastes.

That said, if HB and ED go down, I don't know what I'll do. It's going to start getting REALLY hard to find blogging inspiration, new designers, etc. without shelter mags.

Another thing...why aren't some of these defunct mags taking their content online? I think that would've been particularly successful with domino, which had a lively website and younger audience.

I love that photo but.... its a week of high 30c's here and that lovely red in my heat would just be too much! LOL

  10. We mustn't forget about Veranda either...its really unbelievable how many GREAT magazines have folded in the past two to three years (I mean, House and Garden....really?????) I am actually beginning to resent less desirable magazines for even existing, lol. While nothing can compare to actual print between your fingers, it will be interesting to see how the industry evolves.

  12. (In)decorous Taste-Glad you like the new look. I still haven't gotten over House & Garden and Domino.

  13. Averill-Domino already had a great website and could have been on the leading edge of taking magazines digital. They missed the boat. I stlll miss it so.

  14. Kitty-Thanks so much. The correct term for fanciful elephants is Chinoiserie Chic. My library has lots of singerie.

  15. Lady Jicky-You probably have more shelter magazines than we do anyway. It's depressing.

  19. First -- Love the new blog look. So fun!

Second -- The fact that magazines end up on the newsstand before I get them in the mail drives me insane. I find myself buying them twice.

Finally -- Cannot wait to see your holiday decorating ideas. I just started doing my holiday decor shopping this week. Favorite holiday by far.
